    There's a reason why the cliche "cutting corners to get the job done" has negative connotations...........

    Ride like everyone else on the road is an idiot, and you won't be far off the truth sometimes.

    To be old and wise, you first have to be young and stupid. But not too stupid, else this might happen.

    This was stupid dialled to 11.

    Need to make the first part of the licence process about attitude.

    Free for all with variant skill levels and no structure can = Whoa fuck! moments. I went on several such rides within a couple of years of starting out, and after two bins on one and three on another my head said no more.

    That was insane! Accidents like this don't help to keep unrestricted roads the way they are now. Two bikes head on .... wide open corner with good visibility. WOW!

    Yes .. that's exactly why riders should not cut corners ...

    The dude at the back that was following too close and ended up in the ditch is perhaps the 'victim' of a group ride, but it looked like the offending party here was just passing in an inappropriate place that probably would have happened no matter what was in front of him.
    What part of for(int i=0xC02;putchar((i&7)+69)&&(i>>=3); ); don't you understand?

    Godz that is horrible. The offender was way over (seems to try and go right outside the oncoming guy even) and one of them is on fire on the ground at the end. I can think of at least 2 times I've ended up on the wrong side of the road through my own poor judgement, all without incident, all years ago and each one a personal embarrassment. But for the grace of the great spaghetti monster in the sky (may his noodley appendages bless you all) go I.

    I can also think of of a few group rides where I've seen a lot of pointless passing in bad places.

    I think we can all identify with your post. It's just a fact of life though that for some they don't survive to learn their lesson. What is worse is that others who do survive disasters like that don't always take the necessary lessons which came at such tragic cost.

    And what's even worse is when innocent others don't survive someone's act of stupidity.

    100% agree.
    To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead.

    Or....he just fucked up due to his own stupid decision, nothing to do with feeling like he had to keep up. Maybe he wasn't even a part of that group.
