Looking at the slips on SH1, wouldn't that make a fun challenge to ride a dirtbike / adv bike from Seddon to Kaikoura?

Was thinking the same thing last night. Should be able to hit the beach at Ward and see how it pans out.
Sadly we won't be able to give any money to those poor bastards at KekerenguIn saying that I don't think Ward will have much through traffic for a fair while either. Rough.
I think that by next week you'll find that the government will be ready to repair the road...
Why? Kaikoura is a major tourist attraction and the road or rail there is part of the attraction and that means money coming in to the economy. What is to be seen that is as spectacular as whales and seals if you go over the Lewis Pass?
Also, if the road is not repaired what will be done about the rail line? Cut it off at Christchurch? Doubt it... Would mean building new infrastructure at Lyttelton for rail and then extending the Interislander service to Lyttelton as well, that's big money... Or you just abandon rail in the South Island altogether...
someone has floated the idea of a motard video jumping some of the stuff as well,
So who has the time to go and do this? I don't unfortunately, not for a couple of weeks at least, I suspect the window of opportunity is 1 month tops before the road is covered in do not enter signs and heavy vehicles.
Funny you should mention that. There is one in the pit area of Cemetary Circiut, They worked all day boxing day last year.
Hardly surprising though. I can look out my office window right now & see 12 that have been abandoned by contractors that finished working in the street over a month ago.
For very many years the Pioneer Club in ChCh has run the Kaikoura Trial at Easter. I remember when it was still a road trial with a few observed sections as special tests. It's turned into a 3 day jolly - effectively 3 separate observed trials nowadays.
As I've said elsewhere, it's be a bloody good 3 day trial now - day one ChCh - Kaikoura as it used to be. Day two, try and reach Seddon, back to Kaikoura for the night (prize for the rider getting furthest North...) Day three back to ChCh.
And of course in line with the history of the event - 2 boozy nights in Kaikoura.
Anyone prepared to bet on SH1 being open at easter ?
