Timing Retard Eliminator for the GSXR

Well I've been busy this afternoon building and installing a TRE in the K3.

Found a thread on here with a link to here, just tried to find it again but I can't and I can't remember who posted it so sorry bout that.

Anyway, took the bike for a test ride and although it doesn't make the difference that this guy claims, there was a noticable improvement (now it's even harder to keep the front wheel on the ground). His was a K1 which may make a difference tho.

Okay, admittedly I don't really need any more power, but for $10-$15 (even less for me as I already had most of the materials needed) who could resist?

I took some pics (missed the early stages as I only thought of it half way thru). Ignore the date as I haven't figured out how to get rid of it, and sorry bout the quality, don't use the camera much so think I had it on the wrong setting.

Only permanent changes to the bike are 2 cut wires and a hole drilled in the plastic under the seat to mount the switch. You'll see where I put the switch, I chose this spot as it's hidden but easily accessible while riding.

If you've got a little electronic knowledge then I recommend giving this a go, it's bloody simple. However, if you're not sure then probably best to leave it alone, it would be possible to do some expensive damage.

Personally, I wouldn't go out and buy one from the shop (I've heard prices from $80-$175). If you really want one, let me know and I'll put one on your bike for $10 and a box of piss or something. Gonna put one in Saul's K1 next so he'll let ya's know what he thinks.

BTW, if you're doing a K3/4, then it's the plug one the right when looking towards the rear of the bike, not the left as stated on the site.

Once I've done a bit more riding I'll give you another update on how it performs.

Next mission: installing the Scottoiler the missus got me for xmas....

Well this is what the bike has managed to do to the rear tyre after only 3-4000km's(too many wheelstands me thinks )...... think it's gonna eat them even quicker now........

Ok what bikes can you put then on and how much of a difference doesw it really make... I'm an electronics enginnering student so can do all the work etc myself.
Lump lingered last in line for brains,

Have a look at the site.

All GSXR1000's. I'm not sure what year they started retarding the timing on 750's and 600's, possibly the injected ones? Have a look for the wires going to the CPU.

Hummm where have you hooked your TRE into . ?? Mine is a Genuine Ivans Unit & goes into the plug from the motor to the Gearbox as this is where the bike tells the ECU what gear it's in & where the Unit tricks the bike by telling it its in 5th so full HP mapping in 1st & 2nd plus takes out the Speed limiter . Cann't tell from the pics ?

Yeah sorry, you can't really see it cause the pics are shit. There's 2 wires that run from the ECU to the Gear position sensor, I've tapped into them under the seat where they plug into the ECU.

This one does exactly the same thing, tricks the cpu into thinking it's in 5th all the time.

Suzuki have fool proofed the GSXR's by retarding the timing in 1st, 2nd & 3rd to make it harder to loop. Fortunately, for fools like us there's a way around it, to trick the cpu into thinking it's in a higher gear and therefore it'll provide full power in these lower gears.

So basically you'll notice more mid-range in these gears, a smoother delivery and a bit less engine braking (will confirm these once I've had a bit more time in the saddle).

So do you want one? If so, I'll make yours at the same time as Saul's, then we can arrange some time to install it.
