    Question RG150: Fixing the engine case

    Chain came loose a minute into riding the RG. Chipped a tooth off the sprocket and chipped away the chain guard mount which is part of the engine casing. I have the bit that was chipped away, the screw on the chain guard hung onto it, now what I need to know is if it can be welded on or am I buggered?

    Could try and hory it up with epoxy resin, but that won't last forever, and if you do, you will need to clean and sand the area first

    I was thinking of something like that. I need a more permanent solution though. I was hopefully going to race it next month but might not be able to afford a new chain and sprockets by then

    Its all grainy, muck metal, so won't weld at all well, If you do resin properly, I suppose you will get 6 months out of it, but no guarantees. The other way is to try and fabricate a bracket off another screw point, but till replacement, she's gonna be dodgy

    Might be able to make a plate that joins up from the frame to the remaining mount. It should be a bit more solid than the old plastic cover

    Just remember to file or grind off all sharp edges, use spring washers, and you could still epoxy the hole up, and then re drill it, and pop a new screw in. that will add to the rigidity of the arrangement.

    If it's only for the chain guard, it's not really structural. There's plenty of metal judging by the piccy. Drill a small hole in each of the mating surfaces , put in a pin and use JBWeld to stick it back in place. The pin will locate it and give strength.

    Yeah I know it's not serious, I never actually said that. Just might have a few hassles getting a warrant and I'd rather have a guard there especially since the chain only just came off today and did that damage. I'd like to keep my foot intact.

    I'm not quite sure what JBWeld is, I'll google it up

    I have a spare chain and sprockets if you need them. They are off a KR150, so not sure if they fit your RG, but we can find out. Hate for you to miss out next month when I had bits sitting here you could use.

    I think the chain is fine, I might be able to get away with replacing just that sprocket. I'll see what I can afford

    this really shows how much a chain guard really is..

    if that wasnt there.... think what would have happened to the acctual engine case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    but as said a bitta JB weld or KneadIt will fill the gap..

    Now make sure you keep your chain at the correct tension so this wont happen again!!

    The thing is it had only got it's warrant a few weeks ago and that should've been alright. And I wasn't very hard on the bike at all, I was at 8000rpm and letting the clutch out smoothly. I've done worse, farrr worse
