Just do it every 6-12 months depending on use.
Or go for a cheap oil (ATF or engine oil) and change it every ride.
6-12 months! you what?~!!
5-10 rides? Bloody hell, Why so often?
Ah well i'm not one to complain motul 600 aint so cheap either... Im paying about $2.50 a litre for gas at 30:1
Not so sure about dirt bikes.... Race bike is every 2-3 race meets... Road bike every 3-6000kms...Originally Posted by MrPeanut

Well it aint really doing much. It's just lubing the gears, absorbing impact and suspending clutch particles. You'd probably be lucky to ride 50hours in a year. 50 hours at an average speed of 30odd km/h = 1500km so not really much distance travelled. You can always change it more and use the most expensive oil you can get if it gives you peace of mind. It's up to you.Originally Posted by cheese

I usally change it in MX bikes about every 5-10 rides also. I cant feel much difference in the dirt bikes with new oil, but when I had an RGV 250 (still the same 2 stroke, with wet clutch) It felt awesome for about the first 2 hours after I changed the oil. It was so smooth in power and also shifting. I guess it depends how you ride as to how often you should change the oil, I.E. if you abuse the clutch, and shift without the clutch alot.
O my MX bikes I change the oil every second or third ride, or 5 to 10 hrs with a maximum of 15 hours.
If I have done deep-ish river crossing, I change the oil.
You only have about 800 mls of oil it's not a lot and you do not have a oil filter to help keep the oil clean.
Also most people that ride/race a MX bike slip the clutch, so you have clutch fibres floating in the oil and that is not a good thing.
800 mls of oil is cheaper than a re-build.
I think a cheaper clean oil (not cheap crap oil) is better than dearer oil that is dirty.
Feel the fear and do it anyway
