just getting some idea of oil change intervals. do you change the oil at 5k, 8k, 10k? and do you change the filter at the same time?
cheers

On my Suzukis I never change the oil, or filter. Never have for years and tens of thousands of kays, that's Suzuki's for you I guess

When buying the bike, it had 52000 on it, so didn't bother with that 5k, and had one at 59000ish. By 58000 ish, under hard load, I was getting it jumping out of second, after shifting from first, unless I was shifting without the clutch. Also had the odd false neutral.
The service fixed all of that, now it shifts very nicely.

Time to ride
Every 3.5-4K's, both oil and filter with semi-synthetic stuff only. Keeps your engine clean and happy.
Every 5000km oil/filter or as close as possible. And when getting a new bike 1st job is oil/filter whether it's just been done or not by the previous owner or shop.
3.5 is a bit excessive. Depends on what it is and how you use it. a 250 spinning to 17,000 and getting thrashed everywhere? 5 should be fine. bigger, slower revving bikes, maybe a bit more (6-7k). Oil is cheaper than a new gearbox though, changing oil too frequenly isnt going to hurt.
Change the filter too if your doing the oil, lots of nasties in there.

I prefer to do every 4,000km cos I ride like a Nana and treat my bike like its fragile toliet paper.
5,000km is the norm, but for a Honda, use top oil and you'll get away with 6,000km easily, change the filter every 8,000km.
Race bike using ATF in gearbox , every 2nd meeting
Enfield ...when I feel like it
Truck ....70 000 and still on the same oil ........
most people change oil wayyy to early

most of the Europeans stick to the service schedule, 10000km for almost every bike excluding the race bikes. My old monster was on 6000k's as far as I know and my little lady needs a service every 6000k's as well.
never understood why the kiwiworkshops reckon half the manufacturer recommendations, I know you guys doing more short trips but we don't do just long range trips over here and I never had any problems.
