    Sounds Like a Good Idea

Freedom to ride where we feel, it just "happens" to be the same roads as a cop is on.

Sounds like a good idea but its STUPID, poke the bear with a stick and you will get eatten. Do you think the cops are stupid.

It may be true that there's nothing they can do, but how would you enjoy every time your seen your pulled over for a license inspection, vehicle check, or just a chat. I'm sure they can do THAT with no problems and it would sure take the fun out of riding.

My two cents or is it 10 now.

With a long weekend approaching, I'm guessing that there will be an increased "presence" on the roads towards the end of this week.
Perhaps the reason the Muriwai to Mangawhai ride had a visitor at the beginning, since the police leave is (presumably) being saved for the coming weekend...

IF it sounds like a mosquito it probably is.

Are the cops stupid? huum lets see, they get paid approx $40,000 a year to get beaten, abused, puked on, threatened, ruin peoples days and have to wear those fantastic baby blue blouses- oh thats right they "serve and protect the community" protect us all from those scary bikers who fang aroung on desserted roads and don't endanger anyone but themselves.
Or you could be head of homicide, he gets to hangout with corpses for $65,000 a year. Are cops stupid? well their not the smartest civil servants out there thats for sure, take a paramedic- they have to get a degree before they can work. Now lets consider traffic cops, the lowest of the low, even sneared at in there own ranks. What do you do all day "well, i point a plastic gun at cars for hours and hours and...." you get the picture. Please don't for a minute think i'm being harse, they reap what they sow. Surely at some moment in time on the side of a highway somewhere the traffic cops thinks to themselves "am i sad?, do i have a life?, is this what being a cop is really about?, am i pathetic?" Well no they don't ask this, and why?- because they are stupid. Hope that clears that question up.

Um. Not all that many TRX850s around, I'd guess. Less still around Dairy Flat way. Glad I don't ride one. Mistaken identity can be a real pain.

    Lighter Than You Should

I was wondering last night, why the cops take such a bashing?

How many of you out there have been written a lesser ticket than you deserved because the cop was allowed to use some discretion?

I know of 2 within the last week. And I'm sure you know of many others.

I think it has been said on this forum many times, if you get caught speeding take it like a man (no disrespect girls) and own it, you knew what you were doing... And thank God if for some reason the officer was feeling nice and let you off lighter than the law says you deserve.

And final thought, how much cheaper would it have been to head to Pukehoe for the day instead of on the ATNR.

Treat the ATNR as it is meant to be, a nice cruisey way to spend a Thursday Night, where you might make some really great mates.

    Good point.

Just curious though, how many of those that received a lesser ticket sighted the radar speed?

Well that's what astounded me, they don't have to show you the laser readout! Apparently it's ok, because if they say that's what you did then that's what you did.

Forgive me, but if you've decided that you don't mind being paid for booking bikers on a dead road in the dark with nobody around then I can't trust your judgement.

I was being subtle. I wonder how many people who get a "lesser fine" actually weren't clocked on the radar properly. After all if a cop's just done you a favour the last thing you're going to do is call him a liar.

Agreed 100%... but with a little cunning you can have it both ways.

Wait till the ticket is written, and then ask to "just check the radar".

If you are being accused of something the evidence needs to be there. If they have indeed done you a favour and booked you for less than the indicated speed, thank them.

If they don't have a speed on the radar or it's lower than the speed indicated, ask them what's going on and challenge it. There's nothign wrong with calling for another cop, or contacting central if the cops trying to do a dirty.

I'd be very surprised if they were - but hey.

that's the issue Nige, they are under no obligation (legally or morally) to show you a speed on the radar. fuck, they don't even have to have a "locked" speed, just to have seen the numbers flash before their eyes.

    pack of cunts.

    i don't do subtle
