Trouble is, round Maramarua, since the Insane Yellow Paint Maniac got to work, it's not a matter of waiting for a kilometre, more like 20 kilometres.

Why would anyone use the main roads in that region, anyway?

decent passing bay before entering gorge would help

I drive through the Manwatu Gorge about once a month. I came back from Gizzie tonight. I hate following some poofta slow prick but I would not attempt to pass any vehicle through that gorge. It's not that long so just grin and bear it . What would help is a decent chance to pass slower vehicles before you enter either end. It's a mad dash from the Woodville end to find any spot to pass a stock truck or whatever that you know will slow the whole gorge trip. Once in the gorge there is no where for a courteous truckie to let you pass, even if he wanted too- and most I meet travelling are bloody good at letting cars pass. Big thumbs up to all the truckies doing that torturous Napier-Gizzie road this week. You guys are fantastic. I was hoofing it in the car sometimes and each time I came up behind a truck they would quickly find a way to signal me and let me pass. Damn I want to get back up there on the bike.
Back to the gorge camera blitz. Thought about it as I drove through and each car that I saw crossing the centreline pissed me off (4 out of 5 were 4wds, surprise surprise... arseholes). No need for it and it's not too tight for the big trucks to keep left, like someone said earlier. Book the bastards. 35 demerits I think, ha ha.
