    Rides.

Went out to Waimarama Saturday, Mobil ride.Road in best condition its been in for a long time ( apart from the usual ripples on the sharp corners). Comming back turned left towards Elsthorpe/ Patongata and took the road down the back of Te Mata Peak. Well, what can we say, a shitty piece or road just got a whole lot shittier. Would like to know where you stand legally when you crash on unmarked, unswept recent seal patching. More gravel than a gravel road with a white line painted down the middle and enough jumps to hold a Super X.
Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death. (HT)

Complain to HDC. They should know who the contracter was.
Do it in writing and follow up with a phone call. Threaten with media coverage, if you don't get satisfactory results.
    Good luck.
    Hope you weren't hurt!

If ya can go back and take a whole lot of date stamped photo's of offending area and accident site along with anything else that might lend weight to your arguement.

No, didn't crash, just posing a question. Think I'll just avoid that piece of road. Might ring and find out the contractor anyway. Most of them don't know how to do the job properly. Half of the time the patch crew are patching up the new sealing job before the painters even get on to do the marking or put the cats eyes back..

As requested, this email is to confirm outcome of your report of loose chip. Actions and outcomes as follows:

    - Site visit showed patches were clear of loose chip. Some loose aggregate found on road at new rehab site where cars are cutting the corners and aggregate is being tossed out. Site has been swept and EMP placement considered to traffic off the unsealed portion

    - Investigation of Contractors paper work showed some deficiencies regarding recording of times in relation to sweeping and disestablishment of signs. This has been noted as a non conformance for corrective action as is consideration for the timing of removal of signs.

As discussed thank you for your comments and apologies for the delays in getting back to you. As mentioned I would be keen to have access to your bikers forum to receive feedback on any areas of concern. I cannot promise the world with regard to providing a rolls Royce network but we can prioritise and manage the risk for our road users.

    Regards

    Great stuff, man!
A much better response than I got from Napier CC when I complained about loose chip.
Good on you for doing something about it!

Good guy Brendon Walker, he certainly seemed to be genuinly concerned. I asked him who would I sue if I crashed on some loose, unswept chip repairs? He suggested both parties were liable, the HDC and contractor. He encourages feedback and will follow up.
