any body know what this is? it was covered in tape and stuffed up behind where the headlight would be. Could it be part of the speedo that is the speed restrictor or something?

Looks like the board from the inside of the speedo that keeps the bike thinking the speedo is connected. If you remove the speedo entirely without keeping that board connected, the bike goes into limp-mode IIRC.

I could be wrong though, I'm feeling too lazy to walk down to the track bike and check what the board in mine looks like, currectly safely encased in tupperware.

Only got them back from the engine reconditioner on Friday and couldn't wait to get them on.

Nothing special, stripped, good soak and everything measured. Valves lapped and heads reassembled using new stem seals. They had to shave the heads to remove a small dent. Work was done by Hutt City Engine Reconditioning. Nice guys and not too expensive, but it did take them a while as they were busy as.

I did that once. Went without a bike for a year.

    I'll never do it again.

    Ever.

100% what Jafa said, it's the photointerruptor that acts as a speed limiter. If you put a piece of plastic or something in that slot, it'll cut spark to one of the banks!

cheers. I will definitely keep it then. It looks as if I am going to re-do the entire loom anyway. I think that will end up on the wee plate I am making that will house all the electrics. at this stage all that stuff is going to go under the seat and between the rails: crash protected. I ordered a Shorai battery yesterday which is considerably smaller than the Yuasa that was in there, and instead of weighing 3200g, weighs 540g !!!

Keep hanging in there, man. Sometimes it seems like there's always something else, but if you keep at it you get there!

HDC - Don't know if you care, but that piece can be replaced by a single resistor if you wanted to make it a bit easier to tuck away, too.

Sooo something has come up that has forced me to put the kaibosh on building up my vfr into a track bike.

It's a shame but that is how it goes. I may still get to the odd track day, but for a while, I'm broke.

    Wah wohhhh

    Hey guys!

Been recommended to check this forum out.

I am looking to trade my cruiser for a VFR800 vtec. Sort of cant decide on paying extra around $11000 for a post 06 model with lower Ks. Or trade for a 02 version (which im leaning towards) which has done over 50,000ks for much cheaper.

Do the older ones have more probs than the post 06 versions? Or is 50,000k nothing for that type of engine?

Also thinking about resell value, by the time im done, it will prob be around 90,000K when i sell it next.. should be okay i guess.

I know nothing much about these semi sports bike, have only really ridden cruisers haha *hides in shame*

    Opinions?
