I've been contemplating switching the half system over onto the project bike, but from your troubles, reading 400gb and generally considering it has sat for 12 years I'm not sure!
On a positive note, stripped and recond the brake calipers on the weekend...lessons learned - impact driver on the caliper plug screws, used a safety pin to get the seals out and scrape the crap out of the grooves, then they key thing to soak the seals in brake fluid first - did red rubber grease first but was an absolute mission to get the pistons back in! Also, microfiber cloths get the crap off pistons great :-).

I thought taking the exhaust off would be simple. Then I read some comments on 400GB which put me off slightly with reports of rusted bolts rounding off. So I checked the bolts on the exhaust. At the front they look fine. At the back they are so rusted up I don't think they have ever been removed.
Yup. I have an impact driver if you want to give it a go? Otherwise 40$ from rapeco for a power built one, plus buying the impact socket...that and lots of wd40/crc for a few days before...
and I believe getting it warmer helps as well?

WD40, heat, rubber mallet, 6 point socket, and an old wrench that you're not particularly fond of.
Or if you're not a cheap bastard like me, replace items 3, 4, and 5 with an impact driver :P
This was the problem:
If that bolt had been inserted from the right instead of left it would have made the job easier. Instead I had to remove the bolt that you can see on the right hand side that connects the linkages to the bike. Reason I didn't do it earlier?
Now I gotta figure out to how adjust the length of the shock and hope it isn't at full length already....

When they raced them they used a +10mm with the stock rear wheel!

Does anyone have a spare LH switchgear or just the slider bit for the hi/lo/off lights? ebay says like 80$ delivered which seem ridiculous when I just need the little slidy bit!
second, does anyone have a known good set of carbs or a spare float valve that is good? I have a leaky one
third, chain and sprockets - general consensus says about 220 + 40 for fitting...good, bad, could I get them in anywhere myself cheaper? Ebay doesn't seem much cheaper and there are some random brands Ive never heard of
fourth, anyone used the cheap discs off ebay? I suspect I'll need a new rear...and at $50....Here
I will probably get this chain for myself https://www.torpedo7.co.nz/products/...old---120-link
And probably get 520 pitch 14/40 sprockets from here http://www.gfracinguk.com/vfr400-nc3...s-c-15_30.html
Not cheap but lighter chain MOAR POWAR!!
