Good question. I think value / kms is subjective. For example there are a lot of transalp back in Europe with 200k or more that still used every day as reliable commuters. I guess it all comes down to how the bike was kept and serviced. Transalp are also quite basic not much electronics like a new BMW for example so no much can go wrong.

Hmmm pricey, seen the same with BMWs too.... Owning a high mileage bike (GSXR) from new myself, I wouldn't recommend buying a high mileage 2nd hand bike to anyone despite needed to sell mine soon lol.
Although I've had a good run, there's lots of stuff that's quietly degrading away, much better to buy a lower km bike for sameish $$$$

Just because you've got some rattle cans lying around, doesn't mean you have to use them

Has probably increased the value of the bike though...

    ADV bike for 7500

    hi all,

just fishing here. love my bmw 650 xchallenge, and every time I think there's something better I change my mind (have purchased and ridden other bikes, then sold them as not as good!). HOWEVER, that feeling is coming up again to try something new. Personally I think right now for the money and the performance there are not many LIGHTWEIGHT reliable long range dual purpose bikes around as good as the 650x. That said, I'm hunting for one that might suit me better, and considering selling my baby.

Not an over-inflated price either...there is no mark-up from what I paid 3yrs ago, and i've only improved the bike while putting a mere 2000kms on it. I have another bike as my regular rider, so this one is babied somewhat. Anyhow, if u know anyone interested here are the specs:

    2009 BMW 650 x-challenge (g650x)
full REMUS freeride exhaust system ($1200-1500 on its own, standard exhaust included)
renzaco seat (so plush, can ride the length of the country with no rear-end woes)
    new fork seals
    new tyre set
currently D606 rear, TKC 80 front (some life left)
    bash plate
    heated grips
    reg on hold, wof'd
12,500kms only (new speedo but all service records from previous owner)

    $8000NZD

fairly firm on price, as no other xchallenge around with such low kms and in such good shape. this bike is 148kg which is ideal for being very light yet solid on motorway or heavy winds (mountain tops).

    Absolute minter KTM 640: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-970101239.htm

My bike's virgin twin sister by the look of the plate . Excellent buying at the price too when you consider it's a virtually new bike & still a lot higher specced than most 650 class machines sold new today.

    Cheers
