Oh educated ones, how viable is one of these things likely to be as an adventurey type bike?

the TTR250 is a good relieable bike..
    thats the TTR250 Raid model
mark "whatastoner" has done a few dusty butts on one...

they do have a issue with the starter clutch going...
if it clunks when yer turn the motor off it's on it's way out..
but they do have a kick also so yer not going be stranded
like alot of bikes these days....
suspension is fully adjustable.. and a seat yer can sit on all day..

go here and do some reading....

Seat you can sit on sounds good, be an improvement on the DRZ400 I had then.

What is it with Yamaha and dodgy starter clutches?

Tempting to go for a wee drivey tomorrow and take a look.

Back in the day I had an XT350, the TTR looks like "son of". My XT did vast mileage, usually well overloaded. Was fired up mountains, occasionally two up, buried in bogs up to the tank, thrashed on an almost daily basis to within an inch of it's life. I boiled the brakes, rode it into rocks and trees etc etc. Only issue I had was a small split in the carb rubber after 70'000 miles. ( No leccy foot back then.)

It wasn't fast and it wasn't pretty but remains one of my favourite bikes ever.
    Manopausal.

Naah it wasn't my old one, mine had a stock muffler, meaty hand guards and a smaller dent in the tank.

These were sold as slightly adventure and touring combo. Has anyone ridden one? im thinking of selling my Bandit to get one as my two up touring ride.

Ive burned through a tank of fuel on a TNT 1130 and had an absolute blast, good torque and a nice top end. Reliability is another question...my mate still has it but he is a skilled mechanic and auto sparky the right sort of owner for one of these.

Ok maybe look into that. Not always the best thing for the passenger vehicle to have reliability issues.
