Damn, looks like more wear then tear so I doubt it would have lasted a lot longer. Easy fix if you have a welder, just have to pull it half apart to get at it.
In the short term, you could undo the bolt and make 2 metal plates to span the gap, drill a hole in the middle, put a small fold in each one and use the threaded part of the indicator to clamp the 2 together. Make sense? Like the pic below. If you have some alloy bar, a drill and an extra nut you should be good to go in half an hour.
