Britten on view at Custom show in Whangarei

According to a press release, the Custom & Hot Rod Show, at Advocate Stadium in Whangarei this weekend will feature a Britten – a bike that, aside from a truly awful paint scheme, featured a number of innovative features.

Aside from the Britten, the show also features “Muscle cars, street rods, fast and furious cars, speedway cars and bikes, rally cars, and motorbikes join the latest from vehicle franchises such as Ford, Holden, Honda and BMW, as well as a new Dodge Viper and 1955 F100 truck.”

    For more details, ring : (09) 438 2284

(Please forgive me if any details are a little wonky - I don't know the show or the area... and the press release was cobbled together by the unlimited number of monkeys trying to come up with Shakespeare, during their lunch break. Evidence being putting the ampersand after 'Hot Rod'... amongst other boo-boos)

The only thing you got wonky is your comment about the paint job. For a racing machine I thought it was top class.

Fair point - each to their own.

Anyone got a photo of a Britten to show everyone what we're on about?

And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

I really should credit my source.

This pic is taken from Richard Chapman's Britten Photographs site, which can be found here:

    Some amazing Britten pics.

I've got an old pommy "performance bike" mag from '94 that says "anything worth doing to make a race bike innovative, and faster, has been done by Britten" or words to that effect!

not bad praise from the biggest selling motorbike mag in the UK

PB, the biggest selling motorbike mag in the UK? Not by a long way. I think PB sells about 50,000 a month... so it is miles behind Bike, which has audited sales over 100,000.

Oddly enough, Bike were talking about the Britten in this month's issue - they were saying pretty much that Britten had features that the current bikes are still catching up with. I'll try to dig it out when I get home and copy out what they said.

in a feature about future bike design

"Thinking of a logical development for current bikes and the odds are Britten has tried it. Minimal frame, stressed engine, aerodynamics which are functional rather than sylized - and the wonderful thing is it looks good too"

    and then they showed this

OK, I've attached my favourite. Excuse the poor lighting, I couldn't be bothered dragging the frame downstairs just to take a photo.

I have lots more tucked away in a album somewhere. At the time the photo's included the bikes at the ChCh "Factory" being stripped down at a time when some of the internals were still a bit hush-hush.
