Question What makes this 74' Suzuki RH 250 worth this much?

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-135735191.htm

Why is a bike that you probably can't get bits for ,has been in storage for years and had a thrashing during its lifetime maybe, worth $12,000?

Just wondering who'd be mad enough to spend that sort of money on collecting old metal.

Most of the old bikes are selling (not selling? ) for way too much

The RH models were not available commercially back then. They were only for the factory riders while for general consumption there was the good old TM (later replaced by the RM). The odd RH did make its way into private hands, and I recall seeing a well used one for sale in the mid 1970s for over $3000. That was when you get a new TM250 for $1199.

They would be a collectors item, not something you would buy to go bush bashing on.
Why do some pistons go up and down when your wheels go round and round?

    Ahhh...you've nailed it in one!

Bit like being able to buy Rossi's ex M1!

I think there was an 'RN' avail too...around the '79' RM (N) era??

Now if he could have said ex Joel Robert then it would be like buying a Rossi bike - with no named rider associated with it I personally wouldn't put much value on it.

I'm a bit the same. I would like to know the history, who the rider was, how it came to New Zealand etc. I still wouldn't pay $12,000 though, even in museum condition, which it isn't.

It's probably worth that much cause you can't buy a new RH250 cheaper than that....

But this one isn't new, its 34 years old, and doesn't look to be in terribly good condition.

I've worked out who the owner is & he's pretty on to it, but I sadly think ebay US would be a more likely market.
If there is any rule for the inexperienced to keep in mind, it is that everything a reasonable, intelligent person should intuitively believe to be right will probably be totally wrong. Gordon Jennings June 1996; musing on airflow through a 4 stroke engine. . . . Damn fool things that they are.
