    Righteous Right Laners

I went for a cruise to Mercer today and feck me, what a frustrating trip. No fun at all.

The whole way there and home was spoilt by aholes driving in the fast (right) lane at 95ks. I'd cruise up behind them, and they just sit there. Even with multiple opportunities to pull into the left lanes.

I also noted that they were often travelling at the same speed as the left lanes?

I could see them looking in their mirrors, so I knew they knew I was there.

Flashing my headlights made no difference at all.

The up shot was having to do the, swing left, pass and swing right again in front of them.

2 Question for those of you who have got their licenses recently.

    1) Was there any courtesy sections in the training or tests?
    2) What is the law for this?

All up probably only about 5 let me past, so I gave them a wave.

Yeah just got back from the UK, you drove in the right only if you were speeding, or else you were likely to get rammed off the road!

In Europe the speed differentials can be upwards of 100kmhr so you have to be very careful before pulling in to the inside lane!

But over here it is your god given right to drive where you feel like at a speed designed to piss people off, and its best if you drive at the same speed as the person in the next lane to remove all passing opportunities, also don't forget as an Auckland driver you have right of way all the time!

It's not about courtesy. The right hand lanes are for overtaking. Drivers shouldn't be in them unless they are actually in the act of overtaking.

Most roads in New Zealand have lanes marked on them with a white line or raised studs.

When driving on a laned road, it is important to drive your vehicle within your lane.

Where there are two or more lanes on your side of the centre line:

keep in the left-hand lane as much as you can
don't use the lane closest to the centre line if you will hold up other vehicles.
The lane closest to the centre line should only be used when:

you want to pass another vehicle
    you want to turn right
the left-hand lane is full with other traffic or is blocked.

They are before every passing lane still. But not Motorways.

95KPH? Accounting for speedo error they were probably sitting on exactly 100kph on their speedo - any faster and they would be speeding.

    How about some patience?

or accounting for speedo era they could be sitting at around 85 kmh and thats only with ten percent out which the law recognises.

Stop being arrogant its there for passing not for cruising at 95kmh

GRRRRR, Hutt motorway/road, pisses me off beyond all belief for this!
Was traveling with my sister-inlaw one day and she was sitting in the right hand lane, doing about 95-100, not passing anything, just sitting there, so I hit her up about it when a car came and sat up behind us and then passed us on the left. Her reasoning was some crap about her doing the speed limit so she's not going to make it easy for anyone who wants to travel 5 kms faster than her to pass..... ummm, yes, well!!!

Grrr. Don't get me started on that kind of behaviour on the Rimutaka road passing lanes.

    Bingo. Therein lies the problem.
