    Smile Cheesecutter protection

Hi Guys I am new to your site, I am also a non biker, however I am currently working on a system to protect bikers from the wire rope barriers and also to protect bikers from those horrible steel posts that are now being used on the side of the roads to hold up the Steel barriers.
My products are about to go through the first stage of testing, once that is completed and proven to be satisfactory I will need to find $ 70,000 to have them tested in Chistchurch to ensure that they meet the international road barrier standards.
Once that is completed it is then a matter of getting Transit to commit to fitting the barrier shields to the existing barriers and all new barriers.
So there is someone out there working to make the roads a saver place for you guys. I may need some help from you all at somestage in the meantime just stay clear of those horrible things and we will see an inprovement in the future.
I have been working on this project for just on 9 months so far and are about 2-3 months from completing it.

Good for you. I hope you get all the support you deserve.

Trying to get the barriers removed was always going to be a futile exercise.

Not sure if you are aware of this or not, but there is already a product available. It is apparently manditory in France.
    This is it.

well it would be pretty difficult to make them less safe than the existing barrier

and yeah, there's already a few products on the market, but ultimately a concrete barrier has no mandatory clearance for LTNZ to ignore and can actually stop heavy traffic.....

    good on ya though

talked to LTNZ about this product yet?

    Good stuff!

Just being a non biker doesn't stop you organising some rides to raise funds for your project.

Please keep up the good work and post up some more information about your project.

Who cares that you don't ride? That you have taken note of what we bikers are exposed to, and have the ability/where-with-all to do something positive...brilliant. We all thank you.
There will be quite a few in ChCh who will no doubt volunteer for the testing process (they're all mad down there), but don't use OneArmedBandit...he will skew the results
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

sounds a good idea... id be keen to go on some local [wellington or similar area] rides to fundraise. on the other hand, why not try and contact the french manufacturers and see about importing some of their product? might be easier and cheaper, unless your product is better.

jim, that thought crossed my mind as well, but non biker isnt asking us for money towards the 70grand cost.

A scam? Why now? That cynical attitude is very familiar...
The other thing is - in Europe a product known as Moto-tub is used under the armco rails, but I'm not aware of any decent cover/protection system for cheesecutters...there may be some sort of clip-on post buffer? but it leaves the wires and post tops exposed.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
