I agree...The 2008 Busa is by far the fastest bike ive ever ridden..

Saw 290kph easy in fifth and it felt like it would keep going way past that..Apart from my Jacket about to leave my back...

It was a SUPER SMOOTH ride....

only due to all bikes now limited to 299km/h top speed, the early ones(1999 models), could do more hence reason busa still has title of fastest mass production bike

But saying that all you need is a 1500ohm resistor to get around it on a suzuki.

Isn't japan kinda stupid saying "hey you can make bikes go 200km over the limit but not 300" How fast do they go once de-restricted? Or has the new engine been tuned down mechanically at all?

When busa first came out in 99 was a big who har, about bikes going to fast, and pushing to be fastest bike blah, hp limits/speed limits etc, so the japanese got together to put limits on top speed, before governments made them, sorta gentlemans agreement, same with japanese kw rating in cars.

hehe, mine has no restrictor, ecu tune up and modified speed sensor were all that were needed i think.
absolutely no point making go that fast though. Had a very close friend take it to 343 on the gps (screen shot to come) but 320 was my limit and when tunnel vision hits and the road is a blur, well thats fast enough i think.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you can conclude that your GPS was in error. 343 km/hr is 213mph (which is somewhere close to the UK record set by a non-street legal turbo 'busa with a long run-in at Elvington air strip). It takes collosal extra horsepower to make even small gains at those speeds because of drag increasing as the square.

Having said that, the 'busa is one hell of a machine, even more so on NZ roads

I got to take my fathers 07 on the Taupo long circuit. That was good fun, but had major ground clearance issues.

The 08 feels like the handling has improved, as has the throttle response, and it makes the older model feel like it was retarded at low revs. It's a noticeably better bike than the old model. I was really impressed by how nimble such a big bike can be.

I agree with Blackbird that your GPS claims do not appear to be correct.
Have you changed the gearing on your bike? if your gearing is stock you will not be able to go much over 300kmh.
I see you live in Lower Hutt, why not take your bike to Carterton this Sunday, and do the Cliffhanger Flying Quarter event, and find out how fast your bike really is.

so that would mean I go from a 250cc V-twin Hyosung GT250R to a GSX1300R Hayabusa......sounds like a good second bike

I don't think he's serious about selling it to me though....and it may be a bit too ridiculous for me to handle as a second bike....it's nice to dream though

Well obviously if you think its too much bike for you to handle then well it obviously is. If you realise on the other hand that many modern bikes, even the 600s can kill you just as quick and that the dangerous nature of a bike is all controlled by you then you will be fine.

Approach it with respect and ride sensibly and then you will be fine. Dont let none of this scaremongering get to you.

on a side note anybody here owned a ZZR1200? How does that compare with its predescessor and the busa?
