full it's just too heavy off road, you can put stuff inside the tank that deals with the slosh factor when they're half full, but in hindsight i should've got a 15litre one

Have you heard of this "tank foam"?
It stops fuel sloshing around in the tank
It only takes up 1% of the volume and lasts 15 years...
I agree about the huge 6.2 or 7 US gallon tanks being too big.
For the one or two times a year they are useful, they are too much tank for 99% of your riding
The IMS 4.6 is twice the capacity of stock but doesn't look much wider.
I guess its the way its shaped to fit into the frame that gives the extra capacity.
If I have a slosh problem I will use the above foam.
The Acerbis 25L tank is awesome.
Whether it was full or nearly empty, it made NO difference to the XR's rideabilty.
"Top heaviness", or "fuel slosh" are just naive Knitters' imaginations running wild.
"......this is a reflection of my lack of riding talent obviously........" YES.
i never had any trouble with the 24l acerbis tank. dont think mattsdakar did either. 300+ km range comes in handy down south
Me neither
.handy too for helping your mate or strangers who get caught short.....plus with mine I can isolate the front from the back so can use the back tank with only the empty weight of the front.....ktm 690 with safari front tank

This is about what they are going for lately on Trade Me, in fact usually about $6k for one with a "live plate"
I have seen one a few months ago on at $7K and remember thinking "you are bloody dreaming" as it was nothing special..... only for it to disappear off the listings a week later. Presumably sold.
When I returned to NZ 4 years ago a good BRP was $4500. They are definitely appreciating in value.
I was in the Honda dealer in Hamilton last week and the manager was lamenting the fact that Honda was not producing a big bore enduro/trail bike. He said that if they did, "he could sell them all day"
This is another reason why the XR650R will continue to increase in value.
(Also the fact that they are really fun to ride)
perhaps your right, there was a minter on trademe a month ago which in hindsight my brother shouldve pounced on, at $6,500 it was worth iti paid $3500
for mine with road gear and live plate, but then again a mate of mine paid $10,000 for his altho it included an excel set of motard wheels and bigger brakes etc. this time last year there were no less than 6 brp's on trade me but theyre a bit few n far atm sadly
