cheers mate, my main concern is the gps sensitivity under tree canopy and in steepgullies as a lot of guts nstuff in the kaimanawas cause my lesser megellan to fail miserably.

    so what did you buy?

Well, looks like I won a GPS on ebay, I think it is a 60c....Nice price too.
But, I might flick it off because I have a cunning plan...Sell it to you when it arrives
As the old eyesight gets worse, I need bigger screen and more permanent GPS mount arrangement. I am hard wiring
Garmin Streepilot 2610/2720 to both bikes.....
I have done some research and these units have all of the same functions as the handhelds have now. I am in the process of getting a few things to make it work.
Old school GPS for old school bikes...
IPX rated too, so waterproof units...

Then all you need is the Garmin 60, tracks for you and retraces, has all of the bells and whistles and more importantly huge battery longevity. When you get back, load it into Mapsource, save tracks and use again and again.

the doc guys and some of our guys use the 62s and they get into some pretty random spots and have no probs with signal. plus with the topo its a lot easier getting out with a kill on your back rather than using the compass and walking up and over shite gutts and gullies where as the topo you can plot around and look for easier routes
