Today I rode from home to work and then a few hours later I rode from work back to home.
    That is fuckin' bullshit!
There should be a law against working in weather like we had today!

I guess having to work is my own damn fault for not winning lotto.

If the weather is okay, plan A for my Sunday ride is, Waitomo Valley, Fullerton, Oparure, Ngapaenga (17k gravel) Waitanguru, Mangaotaki, Piopio, Coffee & Pie, Aria, Kopaki, Tekuiti, home (maybe Rangitoto/Barber rd's)

Lance, if you are interested in coming down, I'll cut out the Ngapaenga loop (see plan B) and stay on the hard stuff. If the promised rain arrives, the gravel wont be much fun (I'm thinking cleaning the cruiser afterwards ).

Plan B would be stay on Mairoa rd, Piopio, Aria, SH4, Ongarue, Waimiha, Whakamaru, 2nd coffee & pie, then Wharepapa Sth, home.

Getting a new front tyre fitted this morning, my wife has bought me a ticket to see the Chiefs v Blues game tonight, so looking good for my weekend off.

Just reading the conditions on the ticket to the rugby tonight. "The following items are prohibited, still, video or movie cameras, including mobile phones with these functions." Can anyone think of a mob ph that doesn't have a camera or video capability??

This AKL member of WLOR is currently keen, weather permitting.
some of these destinations are close to a currently planned trip involving a few waterfalls. So it would be good to survey the land a bit before I try that one.
as long as the gravel isn't too loose or deep then that might be ok too.
quite happy to try rangitoto etc as that wouldn't be on any of my planned routes.
the bike does need a clean at the MO - any takers?

still got to get around to a new front tyre... Maybe I should ask yr wife?

    start time/place?

I was gutted when I saw my first uploads to youtube. The quality was a long way from what I had recorded. I have a remote mounted on the left side hand grip which I can operate with my left thumb. I rarely use the remote as it cuts about 20% off the battery life.

Re forgetting, I have taken off on a ride with the camera going and not realized the micro card was still in the card reader in the laptop.

Methinks it is time to put the lining back into the jacket.

New tyre on Friday, Oil and filter, plus new spark plugs today. Rear tyre is due shortly, rego due next week, jacket has shrunk, gloves coming undone at the seams, helmet lining falling apart. No decent wet weather gear for the winter,

The wife reckons the only cheap thing about motorbikes is the petrol that goes in it. She just might be right.

    Chasing the rain.

Wet roads throughout the day's ride but the rain kept ahead of us. The usual route through Waitomo, Mairoa to Piopio, Roads were wet so we kept the speed to a steady clip. From Piopio we rode through Aria (nobody home there) then went straight ahead instead of turning left. This had us on the Ohura road, then the Aria-Maitiere road. 20k of gravel lay ahead.

Lance had not ridden his 800 Boulevard on gravel before, but I assured him it was just like in this photo.

I forgot the 'scenic' reserve part way along.

Lance just took it easy and nothing went bellyup. Got back on the seal and rolled along to Maitiere. After the previous road the Ohura road out to SH4 seemed like a motorway, almost,

From SH4 we turned onto Kopaki rd then left into Tekuiti. A side road to Oto, then an easy run back to Te Awamutu.About 280 k for me but Lance still had to get back to Auckland, so still had a ride ahead of him.

Another excellent ride and great company.
We didn't get wet, unlike some others

just don't believe the travel brochure.....
the salesman is awesome. You 'forgot' LOL

I always wanted to do adventure riding just not on a cruiser.
well it went OK. Just got to read the gravel map and make sure keep throttle open
Still Phil amazed me with the tallest bike whizzing thru the gravel like it wasn't there.
Did it remind you of the roads around between Port Waikato, (Landsdowne) and north of Raglan?
So much higher CoG than us, must have stood on the pegs?

Awa great work on the post above.
the actual gravel was a lot worse than you show.
and the top dressing plane coming over the top of us at such a low level was a good effect too.

would go again at a moments notice, thanks guys.
