The bikes are not the same now. Even an off the shelf superbike is superior to what they rode.

Seems to me what makes the aliens of any era special was an elevated feel for what the bike was doing & great throttle control . That feeling was developed on dirt tracks using bikes with no traction control. I am not saying the new bikes don't need it or that it is no use but the likes of Stoner would wind back all the intervention modes on the bike to get better feel , it made him faster. Mere mortals on the other hand would be in way over their heads.

Certainly pretty fucking amazing that he can keep re-inventing himself.

No doubt. I hated watching him through 03 04 05. Made the racing boring. Now I'm fairly convinced he is God.

I think you're confusing him with Mick Doohan.

Mick was just faster than everyone else. He never needed to change his style. Well...except for getting the hang of the bung leg and all that.

And the big bang ruse. Then going back to the screamer when everyone else got a big bang and still tarred the lot of them.

No need to really was there mate? But coming back from the injuries he had, to dominate as he did. Nope...he's God alright.

As Doohan said when people moaned he made racing boring - it's not his fault the others weren't quick enough to keep up! Rossi had the same "problem"

And if I rubbed two off the shelf planks together they still wouldn't be as thick as you.

If ya take the planks off a shelf, it's not really a shelf anymore. How does a shelf shop not look empty?
