Puhoi Pub and Hotel
Contents |
Introduction
The Puhoi Pub & Hotel is located in the Rodney District which is a little north of Auckland (also known as 'Hazard County'[1] from the Dukes of Hazard due to the vigilant policing activities of motorcyclists by a Police Officer referred to as "ginga"). The facility was established in 1879. The area was settled by people from Bohemia[2] (now the Czech Republic).
The Pub
The pub has a classic country atmosphere and is friendly and inviting. Don't turn up if your wanting a fancy wine, cappuccino, or anything more than basic meals[3]. They may actually serve these things - but I doubt if any patrons have actually asked.
The Hotel portion has around 8 rooms. However they don't let them out unless you arrange it in advance and are prepared to take all the rooms.
The pub nearly always has a large number of bikers in attendance - especially on weekends. Such is the demand that there is a separate parking area for motorcycles.
Location
The pub is located on the corner of Saleyards and Puhoi Road off SH1. It is not too far from Orewa, and near Woodcocks Road (which is a great ride for average to advanced riders in dry weather). The Puhoi turn off is well signposted from SH1. The contact phone number is +64 (9) 422 0812.
