Well this ride nearly didn't happen for us..Weather forcast was BAD and National park Road was closed on Thursday due to a dumping of snow & road ice...Weather forcast was for gales and rain,,,,But friday morning was dry so up early & 6 of us rode out of Silverdale at 8.30 headed for Drury service centre...Traffic was light over the bridge & caught up with another, that makes 7...At Drury another 5 already to go( 2 Lowriders,2 wideglides,3 Superglide FXDXT's,1 Softail classic,1 Heritage,1 BMW & a Aprilia rsv Millie),Fueled up & out of there at 9.30 down HW 1,just past Meremere our first encounter with the law so back it off a bit & sure enough he was on us within 2 km,he played nice & so did we.Over the 1 way bridge at Rangariri and turned it on down the straights ,just past the Huntly power station, A bloody road block,3 Cop cars ,6 cops complete with cones,Hmmmm, but they reckon just a normal paper work check,,20 minutes after licence Rego warrant check on our way again...Big black clouds bugger ,hit the rain just out of Ngaruawahia towards Pirongia, that bare tar sure is slippery, had a thew moments ,my bike is over 500kgs 2 up fully loaded.Started to think the Avon Venons arnt to shit hot in the wet..Fueled up at Te Kuiti ,had a feed, still pissing down when we got going again,Gloves soaked,Boots filling up,,thinking farrrrkkkk this..My missis on the back never complained,,shes a good girl, gave her a pat on the leg,,shes fine ,so into it ,on to Taumarunui, getting COLDER,Road very slippery, held it together & relief as we stopped in the main drag..Comfort stop, had to search for "IT" under all the layers, yip its still there.LOL...Off we go,dry road, shit hot,Took it up a cog ,good run through to National Park, bugger rain again & SNOW,ccccoooolllldddd, hope theres no ice, lucky.Fueled up at Waiouru, still raining,on to Taihape, found a bar with a fire, dryed out, abit and rolled into Palmerston north And Rex's Bar at about 5.30,THANK GOD.Knocked back some JD's ,off to Motel & a hot shower,Partyed up with the Palmy boys till midnight then hit the sack.<_< Are you bored yet,if so fuck off :2guns:. . Met up at Rex's Bar in the morning,Still bloody cold, about 60 bike turn out, including Vicki (Flame) from Welly, not bad cause of the weather, On the road at about 12 ,off to the first pub,i was forth in line, doin about 120 trying to stay in touch, dont know what speed towards the back, but it would have been fast, 1 bike dropped hit loose metal, rider and bike ok,It was so cold i pulled the plug after the second pub,,back to motel, warmed up ate & drunk..Cant report on the prize giving at Rex's bar that night,,Back to Garths Place at about 8pm,,more food and drink, lots more..Cant remember much, something about a firemens poll and a dildo, but hey its fun dont ya reckon.:spanking:.Missis might have drunk to much and spent a bit of time barking,,that would make a change.:shifty: Next day on the road at 9.30,5 of us 4 Harleys & an Aprilia& the missis with a BAD hangover.Wet Cold slippery,Caught up to about 10 bloody army trucks ,,bloody hard to pass, bastards, first stop Ohakuni, fuel up and food, dryed out in front of the Fire, about and hour,no snow but wet,Tip toed until just out of National park, dry road, yippee, gunned it until just before Te Kuiti,OOppps road wet,,Least its not raining,Fueled up there only ,Hit the rain again just past Pirongia,That road is dangerous in the wet, back up of cars at Huntly so over the river & out at Rangariri,,,bloody ass holes on the M way that stick in the fast lane, alot of lane changing, blockage at spaghetti junction, whats changed ,Amazing how you can fit such a wide bike through those narrow gaps,Gunned it home,2 hours in the shower warming up.Will i do it again, hmmmmm will need some far better gear,My dry rider gloves stay dry if it doesnt rain, same for my boots, plastic bags over the soaks only delays the discomfort, Still glad i did it,riding with good mates is just the BEST.All the bikes ran perfect, with all the rain i was expecting at least the odd missfire but NO,,,GO Harley-Davidson..Oh and a Big Thanks to the Palmerston North Chapter Of the Anglo American Motorcycle club, well done guys,,,,AND TO MY WIFE ,YOU ARE THE BEST,up to 200km between stops,,:jerry:
