View Full Version : Any one on here have access to cheaper top quality hockeysticks?
both my boys have destroyed top quality expensive sticks in the last season one of them a $500 TK, the main problem is they play school/club (prem grade) and rep hockey plus we had a water and a sand turf up until a few months ago, the sand turf ripped sticks to bits, i dont mind paying good money but if a kbr has acess to good sticks a bit cheaper than full retail let me know......cheers

Get used to repairing them, my son was the same so we used old sticks for practice and kept the good one for the real games but I was still epoxying up the bottom faces every couple of weeks. If you keep on top of it you can get a good season out of a stick but thats about it.....there goes the bike fund huh?
they are 17 and have been playing rep hockey since they were 12. they started playing at primary school and both broke their wooden warehouse sticks in the same game (should have known something then) they are hard on the sticks as they are both super agressive players plus the muppits on the other teams hack them to bits as well, but they play and practice 6 to 7 hrs a week so thats a lot of time on the turf, both current sticks wouldnt be passed at U18 tournament
What is wrong with the cheap plastic ones we had at highschool??

I get all my gear from Just Hockey here in Wellington. Not sure if they have a website, but could be worth a look.
Where have you been buying their gear from? Most sports shops dont know crap about the sport and only sell you what they have been told is good.
$500 is an awfull lot for a stick...
My Greys cost me $280 a few years back and its still going (will need to upgrade this year).
I cant believe how narrow and light they have got in the past few years!
Ive played since I was 7 (now 25), so have seen a few developments in my time playing. Ive played Rep (Wellington-Captain), Primary, College (1st XI Captain, and mens grade.

Im a bit slack this year and havnt done any training, so I know what I should be doing but the old legs are holding me back haha.

Hmmmmm Sorry not sure then.
Epoxy or a coat of fibreglass on the base will stop them from wearing down, but if they are snapping the sticks then it is highly likely that when your boys are trying to hit the ball they are hitting the ground as well, it is more of a technique problem. I used to have the same problem, would go through up to five sticks a season. Make sure that their sticks aren't too long for them. Also, it may pay to point out how little hitting is actually done in top level hockey, it is a useful and necessary skill, but often overused by boys who enjoy smacking the crap out of the ball when a quick slap or a push would be more effective.
Incidentally, what is with those masks? I would only ever wear a mouthguard to get past the ref and onto the field where I would remove it.

Shit thats impressive! Your boys sound like they have a bit of talent. Do you play or used to play?
They didnt have those masks when I was playing rep hockey... Wish they did!
The amount of times I had to duck after some pleb with a hard hit (but lacked actuall control) whacked it directly at my head!
i never played but they are naturals and would be in the top 5

You're not wrong. When I started playing we were playing on grass. Shin guards only, mouth guards optional.
I haven't played for years.... I really should get back into it.
Most recently I was playing inline hockey, thats awesome fun too.
