Ethyl the Aadvark goes quantity Surveying...

(sorry couldn't resist). I know nothing about it, but I'd suggest you do a little homework on Google or similar before rocking up to it.

Good luck dude!

Being a QS, eh that brings back memories. I was a cadet QS in the eighties (not a good time for the building industry from 87 to 90.

I studied the NZ cert in QS, I don't know whether they still do this at polytechs but it was the standard for the industry.

Topics you do; Building 1 (domestic), Building 2 (Light commercial), construction mathematics, building technology, QS 1, QS 2 ..... blah blah blah

The first lot of papers were in common with a certificate in building.

one thing.. the QS 2 exam was 6 hours long.

ladies, ladies.... i was ONLY joking........ :shake:

you 2 know that i'm happy in the .......KITCHEN!!!!!!! :apint:

i made a trifle the other day ... used rum...mmmmmmmmmmmmmm! :done:

"one thing.. the QS 2 exam was 6 hours long. "

ummm the TC for painting was 4hrs...PLUS the pratical.......around 8hrs... the time is not important IF you are prepared!!!!

went to the job interview last night, met a nice couple, how are running a texturing business, buy the sound of it i was charging MORE per hr over 10 years ago...... fuckin pay in the bay is shit... was told that they wanted a forman, i told them i was paying my forman $20/hr (10 years ago)..... you could see the mood change when i said that!! lol...

but i told them that i would NOT work for anything less than $18... (STARTING rate) :angry2: grrrrr what was i saying.. :brick: .????? but money is money, i will be (if i get the job) incharge of a couple of boys.... (used to employ over 8..)

but if i like the job, i MAY aproch the guy to sub contract out.......(think i'm getting ahead of myself...)

but i will still follow up the QS... do it (the study) after hrs...
would like to push a pen around in my older age..lol

but on the whole the interview went well, and i think i managed to hood wink them into liking me........lol

Andy - have you ever tried a drambuie trifle?
You could link cookery and quantity surveying together for a job and get deliciously pissed doing it....

OK I admit it...I did the Ethel the Aardvark thing! The first time I quit building I retrained as a QS - started off doing the NZCB but veered into Q S'ing. I yr at Taranki Polytech, 1 yr doing stuff through the open Polytech - correspondence and finished with a year at Unitech, with a NZDip.QS. Its OK if you are in a good firm -takes a couple of years to really get the hang of it - I ended up as a Civil & Drainage QS, which was fun, but couldnt stand the office thing and went back building!
Now Ive quit building again.............

one thing.. the QS 2 exam was 6 hours long. not now it aint..
You can do the NZ Diploma of Q S ( replaces the NZCQS), the open Polytech do lots of the papers, or a Bachelor of Construction ( Q S) - 3 yrs full time at Unitech or Wellington.
