Any of you computer geeks out there recommend any good open source ( read free ) disk imaging software. You know like "Ghost" only free , or have I already mentioned that :shifty:

You will note I asked for a recommendation rather than 103,000,000 results from google. If I ever need to need to rebuild my drive I would like the recommendation from someone who has tried the software and can vouch for it. But thanks anyway

I'd personally buy an old copy of Ghost. Ghost 10 will do the trick and I'd be surprised if you had to spend more than $30 on it...

I have a copy of Ghost 2003 you can have.
PM me if you want a download link.
I use one called Snapshot (http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/)
Backs up while while windoz is running, across a network and creates image file/s
...that can be interrogated later & you can do a complete restore or just 1 file.
Very flexible. Comes with a 30 day license and then you either pay up or find a crack :)

What I need is a Disk Image of a clean Windows install. Even Win 98 would do...

Sadly an Image is hardware specific. Needs to be installed from scratch.
Once it is installed you can take an image and copy to an identical machine but if its not identical it wont run :(

I recommend GNU Ghost. Used it lots. Works really well.
Look around and you can find some pre-built ISO's ready to burn and boot from.

Bugger. Shows that I'm used to Mac's eh? Oh well, find a copy of 2003/XP for cheap (free?) I guess.
Thanks for the info.

Not quite true. If you are within the ballpark , like same manufacturer , series etc you can often get away with updating drivers. In a previous life as an IT tech before my illustrious career as a self employed gardener, that is what we would do for a client that upgraded about 500 pcs every 6 months. Didn't always work but certainly dug them out of a hole from time to time.
