If you don't know what it is here is a video...

just wondering if anybody else is into this i have only been doing it for a couple of days, just been practising my landing roll and hoping to get the front flip right soon. jumping from a height of about 3 metres now... then landing into the roll.
Anybody else do free running and able to teach me some things, there used to be an auckland free running club but they have broken up basically.
Also if anybody else is keen to get into it let me know, could always do with other people to run with.

I learnt how to do the running up the wall backflip in 5 minutes after watching this video a while back.(second vid 1:53) I use to be able to run up tree trunks and backflip off aswell. Metal lamp post are a lot harder when slippery

Start of with brick walls as they have good grip. Make sure you run up the wall a few steps before you try flip off otherwise you will fcuk yourself over. Possibly try find a wall up against grass.
Also, I would learn to bckflip before frontflip. I use to be able to backflip on a slight downhill and also of kerbs. With backflips you can spot your landing which makes it a little easier. Where as frontflip you are landing blind.

Yep, Just remember to jump up as well and round...
Also start of doing it off something maybe .5 - 1 metre high and work your way down. Also, over rotation sucks. landing on your heels then falling straight on your back hurts. Thats another reason backflips are better. if you under rotate you can use your hands to help from fucking yourself up.

might want to look up break falling while your at it, not essential to parkour but you ARE going to hurt yourself practising, break falling will take away some of the ouch when you fuck up..

Sorry but im still a bit bitter about how this has changed in the last 10 years since the video hype.
Parkour or Free-Running used to be the quickest means across town. It was what young french gents used to do to kill time and get from A to B as quick as possible. You would dive over cars, jump from wall to wall.....hell jump buildings and floors if you have to.
Thanks to america and its....."weeeee that was fun, lets go again" we now have people taking longer to get from A to B than just walking (or crawling)......why - because they are ninja's-wannabes apparently.
I'm not saying they have no skills, or that it isn't fun, or even if its bad.....i'm just saying it needs a new name. Every other sport has done this - "figure" skating, "hip-hop" dancing........but its not parkour.
How would you like it if Motorcycle riding was only associated with Stunting?
how about "Stunt running"

I believe there was a differentiation between the two parkour and free-running for a while.
one was the original get from A to B as efficiently as you can . whilst the other was the flashy side. but as with all things, distinctions get removed via the media and they got merged together.

in favor of the original efficient version

good composure man, when you roll though you want to make sure your chin is hard against your chest, this will increase the roundness of your roll, make it shorter, and is the strongest position so it reduces the risk of hurting yourself.
keep it up.

You will find people meet up and train in most cities. Have been wanting to give it a go but had shin splints that wouldn't go away (6 hours of muay thai training a day for a month fixed that though!) and now i really have no excuse not too be doing it!

Mark, if you had researched the idea of Parkour you'd know that the guys who started it all off spent a lot of time in the gym, and where gymnasts before they were 'free runners'.
Before you start jumping from properly high shit and start to damage yourself (why am I stopping you???) you should spend more time doing the agility side of things at low level.
The is used to convert the downward motion into forward motion, and if you don't have enough forward motion to begin with you are just going to slam yourself into the ground and look like a dick (as in the two vids you posted).
You don't become a free-runner after 3 days, it'll take months of practice before you pull off a decent run that will impress anyone on here.

I'm going to start doing free sitting, Its a less extreme version of free running.
Basically the idea is to go places and sit.
I'm starting slow, Just sitting around the house, Later I'm going to ramp it up, way up. Go out into the yard, Down the road, sit down on a park bench. eventually I'm going to find an abandoned industrial area and take a rest.
maybe sit on a wall......

That's why his videos say PRACTICE on them. he also stated that those are only landing practice not motion transfer practice. Nor full blown runs.
Good on you mark keep it up.

Then the families of those guys that were killed must be spewing, But hey, good on them, Dieing for real takes some balls, Kind of silly to do it for the sake of a scene in a budget movie though.

Haha, parkour is crazy! Takes some balls to do that. Know a guy in Hamilton (Shaun, if any of you parkour-ees know him) who was getting into it for a while but then decided to stick with liftin weights.
Can't see myself doing any of that freeeeeee running stuff in the near or distant future (lack the balls and non-over weightness :P). Although, I'm not too bad on the roll landings!
