Not debating which cam is best just a brief post to inform people that tachyon are doing a sale with free worldwide shipping. At todays exchange I ordered mine for NZ$235.
Seemed an ok price to me for what it does.

Will leave an opinion on the camera itself once I test it out in a few weekends time.

I got the ATC 5k and 4K from China last trip there. I found the manufacturer there and picked up some samples. the 4k is similar to the tachyon, but can take a larger SD card. Going to test it out on saturday at woodhill.

4k - I can get it for about $200 NZD
5k - I can get for about $400 NZD.

Helmet cam s are novelty. They kinda lose their appeal aftera .. like.. one ride.
dunno why that is any one care to explain?

Dunno. I have had a helmet cam of one kind or another for a few years now and enjoy watching and editing the video almost as much as riding-I guess it is another hobby for me.

I suspect that it is like anything-seems like a good idea at the time but sometimes the reality is not what is expected.

Possibly has something to do with the quality of the output from some of the cheaper cameras and the fact that you can produce hours of raw footage -very little of it watchable.

sorry-another example of the danger of writing something when half pissed.

I have a POV camera an am able to get dealer pricing on them. They cost a lot more than the Tachyon and ATK types but are well worth the price if producing a superior image is your passion.

These cameras record to an SD card-either 4 or 8 gig. I have not had any issues with jumpy video or any other similar problems.

The POV is not an integrated unit-you poke a wide angle camera wherever and have the recording device tucked safely away in a backpack.

I'm on the lookout for a used japanese SD camcorder with AV input so I can do the same thing. I recently got a Panasonic DSnap miniature SD video camera for $30 thinking I could pull out the broken lens and splice in a RCA plug for an external video feed, but since have found it's hard to find the skills to interface the device. Pity, it would make an awesome DVR, capturing at 720x576 25fps mpeg2 compression.

I might have some bits that you could use.

My last camera was a Samsung minikit but after a few years of use it developed a crack in the mainboard. It still works but at times the image and the audio get out of synch.

The minikt is a camcorder with a plug in camera that could be attached to whatever....I have the camcorder and remote cameras in a box if you think they might be usefull. The samsung has a i gig internal drive and i have 2 1 gig memory sticks that I sued with it

Next time I bump into you have a look at the POV.

Sweet, briefly met yah last Saturday but we were off doing our bits.
Love tah have a gas with you about getting some high quality footage sometime. Shortly I'll be working on integrating a gyro and accelerometer which records accelleration and bike angles as text data onto an SD card. Running this insynch with a SD video cam means you can capture both video and bike data and feed it into a bike simulator. This can be replayed as you sit on the sim. Anyway I won't bore you with it here, next time we meet!

I'm just uploading my footage from today. its unedited as I can't be bothered editing it. I'm pretty happy with the quality, just going to muck about with how I mount it cause as the factory one is a bit shit.

Less than half what you paid for the other thing.....

I will PM you about those other bits.

Yesterday I thought to try a different angle on the GoPro Wide. I wanted a front wheel and suspension work viewpoint so I mounted it on my front fork. After the first bump and little wheelie it wrenched off the mount then hung upside down videoing the engine and rear wheel. The angle shows good potential for cutaway footage so I may persue it with a firmer mount and vibration damping.

Every time i try something different I see to smash something so mostly stick with the helmet.

I used to mount my old camera on the radiator shroud but the shape is slightly different on the husky so that doesn't work
