The sequel to Call of Duty 4 has lost the call of duty name but damn the game is looking good!
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJJqPwB5o_8
Gameplay of first level: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-09-modern-warfare/50039?type=flv

Juicy info:

Singleplayer:
- To handle the pressure, Infinity Ward put up a selective filter on community feedback, and at some point simply decided: "this is how the game is going to be."
- Both bullets and grenades now have realistic physics. Bullets will ricochet off walls and grenades will realistically fall down stairs.
- It is now possible to hold a handgun in one hand and a knife in the other, comparable to how Solid Snake holds them together in MGS3 and 4.
- There will most probably be an underwater level, since a heavily armed Navy Seal diver was shown off (as in the trailer).
- One of the levels is called 'International Cyber Space Lab'. Will CoD go into space, or is this some derelict Russian missile base?
- Bullettime is featured in the game, but will only be triggered at key points. It's not some super power which you can activate with a press of a button.
- More innocent bystanders and civilians will be present in the warzones, and though it isn't your mission, you wont be punished if you shoot them down.
- Every time you finish a level, a Challenge will be unlocked. These challenges are comparable to Horde Mode from Gears 2, only with a time element added to it. The faster you kill everyone, the higher your rank will become.
- You can play the Challenges in split screen and they will most probably be playable online as well.
- New weapons will be introduced (while some others will be dropped), and since you're part of Task Force 121, you will have access to the most advanced weaponry available.
- One example of such an advanced weapon is a gun equipped with a heartbeat sensor, which you will use in the 'snow level' to detect enemies from dozens of feet away.
- Existing weapons are completely remodelded and as such are much more detailed this time around. For example, a scope can get smudged while a red dot sight will dissappear when you aren't targeting anything.
- You can destroy much more of your environment. For example, you can shoot at a firefighters pump which will cause a huge geiser to errupt, blocking part of your sight.
- Another example: you can shoot at a gas station, which not only causes an explosion, but the gasline will then flail around like crazy while flames erupt from it.

!!level spoilers start here!!
- The 'snow level' takes place somewhere in Kazakhstan and is called 'Cliffhanger'.
- The level starts off with climbing a ridge which, from their description, sounds mostly scripted, though you do the climbing yourself by pressing the triggers.
- General MacTavish makes a return and is featured in this first level.
- Once you've climbed up the ridge, you will make a trek through the snow, while your sight is slightly blocked due to falling snow, so you'll have to make use of your weapons' heartbeat sensor.
- This level is described as an infiltration mission, where you have to use stealth to advance, comparable to Ghillies in the Mist from the first game.
- After a couple of stealth kills and the placement of several explosives, you get caught and are forced to trigger the explosions early. Now shit hits the fan and all hell breaks loose in true Call of Duty fare.
- During the huge firefight, with soldiers, helicopters and jets all over the place, you make your escape on the well known snowmobile, racing downhill while fighting off pursuers.

- The 'Brazil level' takes place in Favela, a shanty town in Rio de Janeiro.
- Level starts out with you sitting in a car when suddenly you get fired upon.
- You are forced to leave the vehicle, as your driver got shot and bullets are still flying all over the place.
- Your mission here is to chase down some guy while not killing him, so it's a capture mission.
- Loads of stuff happening in this level too: civilians screaming and running away, exploding cars, dead bodies everywhere, it's utter chaos.
- After shooting the target in the leg, the demo ends, which is because they haven't finished the level yet.
- Infinity Ward now uses texture streaming, which enables them to construct much bigger levels. They show this off by zooming out of the Favela level.
- The lighting is greatly improved, with much more subtle details everywhere.
- The entire level is described as having loads of detail, with lots of shacks everywhere and alleys going in every direction, as well as newspapers blowing in the wind.
- The developer hints to Favela being a multiplayer map as well.

- A third level takes place in the desert.
- You drive off to a cliff, which you will rapel down from.
- After this, you will enter a cave and fight underground.
- The scene in the cave strongly resembles the scene from the Iron Man movie where Tony Stark constructed his first suit, which is something the developer was shooting for intentionally.
- The cave consists of a seemingly endless amount of corridors, and numerous large rooms.
<!!level spoilers end here!!>

Multiplayer:
- A couple new multiplayer modes will be introduced, but they wont be revealed until after E3. All modes are completely new and have never been featured in any other game.
- New perks will be introduced.
- The riot shield will be a perk. It will be possible to carry the shield with two people, while a third shoots from behind it's cover.

I loved Modern Warfare so i would love to play this game!

COD4 is the balls!

Another game to come out in the near future is Prototype. Go to gametrailers.com and check it out.

Anyone enjoy playing COD4 on the XBOX more than the PC?

I tried COD4 on the PS3 and its crap...

You need a mouse and keyboard for FPSs!

Gtfo. They should never have bothered with FPS for consoles.

Consoles are SOLELY for racing/flying games and Crash Bandicoot.

I used to think the same thing, but I am a console covert now.

$400 for a box that plugs into my existing 40+ inch LCD and surround sound producing great quality sound and graphics.

How much to replicate that on a PC?

About $800.

However you fail to add on the extra costs of having a console.

Like having to buy your games and movies.

Of course I have to buy games and movies, it's illegal not to :Police: :chase: :msn-wink:

I know my set up total cost is well over $800, but I already have everything else, just add an xbox and go. It would be interesting comparing the gaming experience between the two.

I play in the living room, reclined back in a leather couch feet up on the coffee table.
The sound is all around me, playing out of 7 speakers around the room, thumping bass from the sub.
The picture is stunning, especially when on the 120" wide screen.

I don't feel like I am just playing the game, I am in the game.

Do I miss sitting at a desk so I can use a keyboard and mouse, nope.

I had thought about this type of set up, but I wasn't sure about using a keyboard and mouse on your lap (or on a coffee table) for gaming. Does it work well?

Edit: Is that a dedicated movie/sound room?

T'was the everything-room in the old bling-flat.

Keyboard on your lap, and mouse next to you on the recliner armrest works nicely. A hard mousepad is recommended though.

Keyboards are much handier for hurling abuse at your fellow players.

Getting back on topic .... can't wait for CoD 6 :)

OK, now back onto the sub topic. I'm a desktop FPS player for 20 years. I bought an XBox last year and it's been bloody difficult getting to grips (excuse the pun) with using a controller for FPS gaming, but, I am getting there.

I have a PC that does all I need it to do for now, but she's an old AMD 2600 with DDR Ram and AGP graphics. It plays the games I enjoy at the moment, but I cannot justify upgrading it to play the latest games, for $400 the XBox plays the latest games. I can also just hire a game to see if I like it and don't have to worry about installing it and configuring the graphics etc.

The XBox also plays AVI movies and music streamed from my PC, so I don't have to incur the wrath of my wife putting my PC in the lounge.... just plug a ethernet cable into the router and network it.

Online gaming is where it's at for me. Finally, the thing I do like about XBox Live is that we are all on a level playing field. No dodgy 'enhancements' and suspicions of unproper game hacks. I get killed cause I suck, not cause someone saw me through the wall.

At the end of the day though it's your own choice. If you have tried both you can make your own mind up and arguing on the intrnet is retarded but still it's the KB way.

Rock on.

I have a gaming PC running the home theatre, A gaming PC in the second lounge with a 22" lCD, an Xbox 360 in the main lounge, and I keep a PSP on a shelf in the bathroom.

Pity I have gone off gaming.

Though I do enjoy a good book.

Edit- I forgot about the Laptop under my chair in the lounge and the Linux box mounted under the desk.

Amateur... why am I seeing 320W PSU? You don't need dual PSU when you have a 850W :jerry: I did use a good quality 550W, but that couldn't hack it when I went over 6 ish hdd.

Currently mine is a AMD 64 x2, 4gb of ram, and 4x 1tb and 2x 320gb hdd. Goddamn the Nvidia Mediashield is a piece of shit.

New system (Q9550, 8gb of DDR2-1066 et al) has been stolen for other duties in the office at the moment... Can't wait. Hope the 850W PSU is still ok with 8+ hdd... I have a 1.5tb lying around :msn-wink:

edit: No wonder its hot... I'd look at replacing the CPU cooler...

Agreed, I was a hardcore PC Gamer, CS, UT, AA, RS, you name it I played. I then moved to Xbox 360 I wanted something a little more social.
Just got my Xbox back from RROD repair, will see how long it lasts lol. But I agree, once you get use to the controls its not better but certainly I love the big screen, Dolby Digital and the fact I am blobbed on the couch, rather than leaning over the keyboard, mouse in hand.
Maybe Im just older, lazier.

Aaaaah I remember those days when I could quote the specs of my machine. Back when I was overclocking FSB, bigger fan and heatsink , more case fans. The damn thing sounded like a 747. Im sure the street lights dimmed when I turned it on.

Pshh, you'll never be any good if you don't realise that if you can get away without upgrading something on the PC< then you can upgrade something on the motorbike instead. ;)

The hotwired 320W is for twelve harddrives (which is technically too much while they're spinning up, but okay once it's going), and the 420W PSU for the main hardware, eleven fans and the left over harddrives.

Other'n that, I can't really recall what hardware in is there. 2.4GHz Core2Duo, 8800 gfx card, 4GB of DDR2 and that's about it. CBF'd changing the heatsinks etc for me good Zalman ones simply because I don't do much gaming at the moment, and it runs all the games I play at max happily already. Eight 250GB drives, a couple of TB drive, a 640 and a few 320s... I hate deleting shit (particularly my "linux .isos"). ;) On the whole though it's been pretty much untouched for nearly two years now I think.

Only amateurs spend more money on their computers than they absolutely need to.

Gremlin
5th June 2009, 18:51
The new gear (motherboards etc) are actually less tolerant of heat, so more care needs to be taken when over-clocking... Rather amusingly, the Q9550 is brilliant at overclocking, but heat needs to be kept under control.

Not a fan of having too many fans, too much noise etc.

PirateJafa
5th June 2009, 18:53
Unless you're playing the latest generation games on rather unsuitable equipment, overclocking isn't worth the hassle. Just upgrade instead.

(That said, I would probably get a decent performance boost simply by cleaning the dust and moths out of the heatsink for the first time in around 12 months.)

Fans are all good, just buy a fan controller, flick everything to 5V and BAM, silence.

I would be more in clined to play on consoles if mouse and keyboards actualy worked properly with them...

Not to sound too cocky but COD4 is pretty damn easy on PC. I jumped on the Clanwars TDM server tonight for the first time in months and topped the list. M16 with the red dot for the win!

At least playing on the 360 with a controller is somewhat of a challenge.

I also love my little wee 9600GT  gets along quite nicely at 1920x1200, 4xAA. But that's about it. Needs more SATA ports and a pair of 4770's and she'll be right.
