I dont think we have ever polled this question but I am interested to know whom amoungst you has the speed record?
this poll is restriced to Public Roads not track or other organised event.
and you need to qualify it with a machine that would achieve it.
Its not me thats for sure.. and I'll confess to a 220klms/hr and thats frankly way enough for me thanks.
PS I dont advocate Speed not for legal reasons just for survival reasons.
But its just a bit of fun to know.
Please be honest otherwise its pointless

why don't we just go down to the local cop-shop and hand our licence and bikes in now? Saves a cop seeing this and tracking everyone down..
How could you convince a person of the law that your 220kph was for 'survival reasons'? At most, you'd be pushed to use that for 130kph..
A few people know what I've done before (not that I brag about it, just some were around at the time) and that's more than enough to get me into trouble, so I wouldn't want to offer it up on a plate.. Sorry if I'm being a touch paranoid here..

Invigorated by two weeks motorcycling in the South Island, be warned that I have as of now added SI (that's System International, aka the metric system) abbreviations to my pedant list that has previously included spelling, grammar, punctuation and, of course, the arse.
The abbreviation for a kilometre (pronounced keelometer) is km. Its plural (more than one of them) is km.
And now for my pet hate, the gram (not gramme or any other spelling). Its abbreviation is g. Nothing more, nothing less. Its plural is g.
Mind-numbingly simple really. One wonders at times what people do at school other than learn basket weaving and eating their lunch...

If you wish to use SI, then you must eschew the gram entirely. The valid unit of mass is the kilogram (kg). A gram is an unofficial unit for 10^-3kg.
And there can be none of this kph stuff. Speed must be measured in metres per second (m/s or, more strictly ms^-1). So your speed might be 33.1ms^-1. Doesn't seem the same, somehow.
And the legal basis of measurement in NZ is NOT the SI . Therefore we should not use SI. Therefore there is no problem.
Nor is the "metric system" the same as the SI (and grammes are not the same as grams).
And of course all these issues would be avoided if we stuck to good old Imperial measure, and m.p.h and gallons.
I do concur with the arse. :niceone:

My FZR had a governor at just over 190, which I checked at least 3-4 days per week to ensure it was functioning correctly.
And since I've owned my 636 since 5pm Friday, and ridden it home in heavy city/suburban traffic and to the gas station (approx 1.3km of residential each way, and I never broke 170km/h officer) - my fastest ever speed was 240km/h which I acheived on the test ride of said 636 the week before.
My vote may need further upward adjustment if the weather stays fine this week and I manage to get out on it outside of commuting hours.

My FZR750 has had the airbox derestricted, the muffler debaffled, carbs rejetted, and the ignitor module has been replaced with the 2NK module to get it to as near as I can to US-spec FZR750R settings.
It's still got the 180 km/hr speedo, so I have to guess on the revs as it just winds on past 180.
It pulls 4250 rpm in top @ 100 (measured against my wife driving next to me setting her speed using a Navman iCN630 GPS navigator on speed mode), giving 23.529411764705882352941176470588 km/hr per 1000 rpm.
I've seen 10,500 rpm in top, which works out to about 247km/hr.

I didn't say anything about disallowing track speeds. In fact, that's really where they should be, but by saying that I'd be a hypicrit, which I'm not, I'm just not going to say what I've got too on public roads.

I've seen some speed on that which has made me wonder how much more it'll push. It's stock at the mo (everything is), and I've calculated that at the red line in 6th is about 300, which I know it probably can't make without mods, I'm just hoping there's enough room before the anchors are dropped

I had a fair bit of experience at Puke last year going to 4 open days and the feedback I got was that stock 600's (CBRs, Gixxers, R6s, 636s) were averaging around the indicated 250-260kph mark tops - and the 1000cc bikes were passing them/us on the back straight as though we were standing still!! :shit::crybaby:
oh... k.. well broke that before, and I backed off..

And if you can trust wog speedos- 270+ round to the zero stop on a Daytona Guzzi with the stage 2 engine and exhaust kit.
sorry man, but are you sure?...... cos the Daytona RS (most powerfull Daytona) only pulls 240k.... well thats what it says on the blerb sheet I have, and on the other side is the 1100i Sport and it says 230k... which is what I got out of mine... on the dot at redline.
ps: 1100i sport 90hp
1000 Daytona RS 102hp
I wouldn't mind seeing about hiring an old runway for half a day, do speed runs down there..
Same here...... Wigram would be sweet :niceone:

I see in Super Bike Mag the Honda Telefonica RS250RW tops out at 281 kph....107 bhp!
And the Repsol Honda RC211V AT 343 kph.....250+ bhp

I read a review of the '04 636, and they estimated 160mph ish. Plus, it's only just had it's first birthday, so nothing should be out (I hope..)
We'll see anyways...

We'll see anyways...160 mph = 257.49504 kmph.
Is yours the RR (race ready) model or just the R?

RR = 599cc
R = 636cc
Both bikes (I've been told) are identical save 2 things - 37cc and stickers.. Everything else is the same as they toodle down the production line..
The RRs have more Kawasaki race parts ready, such as cams, tunes pipes, crankshaft etc, don't think you can get those from Kawa for the 636 as it can't be raced in production.. or so I've been told..
I have seen 260+ on it, and have had another bike next to me (1000cc) doing the same speed and confirmed it when we pulled over gobsmacked..

I always thought bike speedos were inaccurate at best... but I'm happy to quote indicated figures. Perhaps in the interests of science we could line up the friendly highway patrol one day and see...

that's what I was thinking as part of hiring out a runway. Get a gun at the end and see what the speeds are..

Nah, seriously, I vote for Ohakea, it's closer to home and my cousin is one of the mechanics there (who lives in Feilding just down the road from Manfeild)... no, I'm not lazy - honest!

:brick: it's on a runway. private. no one cares. nothing would be breaking the law by going warp speed.. we get to keep our bikes, licence and bank accounts after :brick:

removing the element of illegality takes half the fun out of trying to break the sound barrier... next thing I'll have to start doing all the track days... then I'll be saving my speed for the track... then I'll have to start racing cos the tracks days won't be enough... and then I'll be old and mature... oh my god - they're never going to take me alive!!!!!!!!!

As for Puke, I'm hoping next weekend to beat my personal best top speed.. I'd really like to push at least 270 if not more, just depends on how much more the bike and I can push before that nasty hairpin
tell ya what, if you want to sort your back straight speed out, forget about the hairpin and start sorting yourself out everytime you tip into jennian. you'll never get decent back straight speed if you don't have a good entry onto it. my experience has been that I can easily loose 10-20kmhr there with bad gear changes and shoddy lines. By the time the bike gets near the braking zone, you'll end up accelerating so slowly that an extra 10 or 20m before you haul on the chicken lever (at least thats what it felt like to me!, most people refer to it as the brakes) won't make much difference to your top speed.

nyyyyyers, I'll bet it does! My GSXR 600 (exactly the same as yours I believe?) speedo kinda slowed down at 257 at puke and it didn't have much left to give before I hit the brakes (disallowing track speeds is no fun Bugjuice- it takes away that little bit of a disclaimer should someone come looking to make trouble!)
ME HAVE THOUSAND , ME LIKE BIKE FAST GO, 600 SLOW

yeah, thanks for that.. I've done the track a dozen times on the CBR250 and remember about getting the back straight sorted from the S's and Castrol. Getting that spot on was tricky for a while, but I got that sorted, then I worked on setting up for the S'd from Jen. I've basically reset cos I haven't been on the track for a few months, and not at all with this bike, so real slow for a while, while I find my feet again. I'll be happy to get the S's and Castrol right by the end of my day, so to get to work on the exit of Jen would be really good.. I'm just gonna mainly concentrate on seeing that start/finish every lap!
You going to be there?

not a bad plan!! I got some good advice from the track instructors at my first track time event who told me ' don't try and get every part of the track right at once. Focus on a section and improve that before going harder on the next part'. Its not a bad way to go otherwise you run the risk of a small mistake in one area causing REAL problems later down the line (the opposite of this approach caused me to nearly mind meld with the concrete barrier on the hill so I listened!)
no, I won't be taking the gixxer back out there. No more road bikes on track for me - too expensive and annoying if binned (3 and 1/2 months sponging rides and taking the bus? no thanks!)

yeah, fair call.. I'm not going 100%.. I want to see what I can comfortabley get on the back, and cruise the corners, seeing what I can pick up on the way.. the weather is looking to be a bit crap at the moment, so not totally sure if I'm going..

Thats really good advice - same applies to the road.
If you try and think - roll off point, brake point, turn point, apex point, roll on point, weight shift etc etc - you will do your head it - focus on getting one thing right until its habitual, then move on.
Just remember - your 'going hard' level - may also be considerably higher/lower than the next persons'

personally, I've done the track heaps of times, so now it's just getting back into it after a few months off, and learning a new bike on there. Whole-hearterly agree tho. I am getting into that head space, but won't know for sure until the day..
good advice for anyone else who's in my position or not been on the track at all..

Being as this is a public survey, one where everyone can see you admit to committing a criminal act - 350KPH on a stolen Nitro'd BlackBird carrying 2 Kilos of cocaine and enough stolen enriched uranium to build 15 x 300 Megaton bombs.
Thats about 500kg of uranium, plus another 1000kg for the lead case it would have been in :bleh: must've been some ride :not:

180 hp to hit 290 k's?
An HSV needs 400 hp to do the same.
It's not just Cd that matters, it's CdA
