You guys have probably all seen this, now who is going to give it a shot?
There is a dirty old dirt bikers class in there. Thinking about giving it a crack.
Seems like it would be a good way to try Motard without having to get the whole set up $$$.

Taupo Motard Series
Proudly brought to you by AXO, Michelin, Renthal, Troy Lee Design, Taupo Motorsport Park and the Honda Riders Club of New Zealand

The feeling among many motard riders is that they are over looked by motorsport and never get a chance to test their skills on a proper motard track and are only seen as "an add on" at race meetings. Judging from the reaction of the public at the street racing events and the number of motard bikes at track days, this seems an unfair reaction, so a group has got together to launch a two race series this winter....just for motard riders! The details are as follows:
Dates; Sunday 9th of August
Saturday 12th of September
Venue; Taupo Motorsport Park
Track; Not on any existing circuit at Taupo, a completely new track just for motards! It will be a 60/40 split between tar seal and dirt. The dirt section will include jumps, berms and whoops.
No MNZ license required.
Classes; S1, motard bikes 0-450cc
S2, motard bikes 451cc and over
Stock 1, Standard MX/Trail/Enduro bikes on stock rims and gearing, 0-250cc
Stock 2, Standard MX/trail/Enduro bikes on stock rims and gearing 251cc and over
There will be a maximum of 15 riders per class. If numbers per class exceed this, there will be an A and B split based on a qualifying session. The minimum age for any of the classes is 16 years old.
Each class will get the following; 1 practice session of 3 laps
1 qualifying session of 2 laps
3 races of 5 laps
If time permits there will be another round of racing.
Timetable; 7-8am, Sign on
8am, Riders briefing
8.15-9.45am, Practice
9.45-11.15am, Qualifying
11.30am-4.30pm, Racing
.
Tyres; S1 and S2 will use slicks or road tyres
Stock 1 and 2 may use dual purpose tyres or very worn knobblies on their standard rims. Because of the more aggressive nature of these tyres, there will be separate corners on the dirt section to avoid damage to the berms.
Safety Gear; S1 and S2. Helmet, one or two piece leathers, boots and gloves
Stock1 and2. Helmet, boots, gloves, one or two piece leathers, or MX pants with knee pads and a pressure suit, NOT just a chest protector
Registration; Pre event registration is $50, or $65 with a share and use of a pit garage. On the day registration will be $100 and only available if class space permits. Entry details are available from rob@hrcnz.co.nz
Prizes: There will be prizes on the day for the top 3 in each class plus spot prizes plus some special prizes for riders using Michelin tyres.
Other info; food and coffee will be available from stalls at the track. Spectator admission by gold coin donation. For more information, call Steven Croad on 021 485 655 or Rob Edwards on 07 377 4215, or 021 408 901

Its not part of the big track, supposed to be all new. I recon they will probably be using a bit of the carpark with a dirt section off to the side.
Pretty loose rules allright, going to be a bit of a yeehaa fest with all the dirt guys there. Sound like good fun.

Yeah i'm looking at doing the same, except we have to run standard gearing, might be able to sneak a 14 on the front though..
I recon the biggest fattest dual purpose tyre we can fit on will be the go.

Yea already entered for this, as long as it aint wet should be all good on the ''17's, and fun riding road tyres on the dirt!! It'll be interesting to see what they have done and where the track is set. Anyone in Taupo got a camera?
