who do you think has the fastest motofxr out of us aucklanders??
I don't think it matters to much its all about corner speed and keeping it onto the straight
Dave Diprose and others had cams and flatside with ignition and my bike has a old Honda carb and a hand made pipe cut from the standard one .

27th July 2009, 22:27
FYI and just before i head off to the sack ... my bike has a Walbro carb that appears to be a chinese copy of a Honda GL145 carb. Same 28mm dia as standard but with throttle slide and accelerator pump. The exhaust is a pitbike muffler that I bought for 50 bucks from the same guy that sold me the bike. The "genuine" Yoshi sticker is starting to peel off from the heat. :-) All you need to win at Mt Wgtn with an FXR is the right gearing, a carb without a gaping hole in the midrange, wider wheels and the best tyres you can lay your hands on. Unless Nigel's about, in which case you need some luck. Goodnight all. :-) Tim

PS. I'm with Rick on this. If Nigel's bike stays the course at Taupo, he will O-B-L-I-T-E-R-A-T-E us. :-)

IMHO... as far as the mofo fixer's go, it has bugger all to do with working an engine, each fxr seems to be different. I have been ported, mega, carb, cams and cdi.. yet still some al stocko's are faster (rider abilty, weight?) If this engine blows Id stick with a boger.
And as far as wheels go, wide rims might fit the tyres beter but they add weight.
ps: by stock I mean a rejet and pipe hack (seems to make the best improvment) by different I mean I have set two fxrs up like this yet both feel different hence my comment they all seem to differ.
then again LMAO, ya all seen me hauling serious arse last year at TRRS... well in pratice, till the big BANG :)

Maybe I just got myself a wednesday morning bike. :-) Whatever the case i was gutted to miss last years TRRS, and I'm really looking forward to keeping the old girl pinned from turn one to turn five again this year. Roll on December! See ya'll there. Tim.

Taupo is all about power.
. . . And corner speed.
Not much about braking.
But definitely exit speed.
So what have I said?
Well last year in the all-in race (think the one Trudes didn't have a lie down in). I brought my 50 in in 2nd place with a few streetstocks behind me. & some may say my 50 is fast, but it isn't as fast as an FXR & certainly no where near a RG150. So you need a competent rider on a decent bike to do well. Rick proved that point & pushed the envelope by winning F4. The race is still a race.
However I know why Nigel's bike was seizing & he will have fixed it by now. That's where my money would be.

to WIN first you have to Finish
I got the finishing down packed
Dellorto I seem to remember your bike bracking down far more often than my 2 smoker
and also being slower  :2guns: I've had 158 k/h out of mine
Speedpro is also another contender if the gearbox is up and running
then there is Ned Kelly (just needs to get his starts down packet)
Chambers has a much faster bike this year :Punk: and hopefully no photoes of him rolling around on the track trying to go around the outside of #14
TZ350 has a lot more power also 20% more so watchout Rick he dosent want :third: this year
Tim has shown that he can run fast at Taupo
Keith might just get a better bike (has won before on a team E.S.E bike)
anything might happen  I might just find some skill

IMHO... as far as the mofo fixer's go, it has bugger all to do with working an engine,
REALLY... so a std engine with 13/14hp is going to haul your 92kg arse around just as good as your bike for example which is maybe 19/20hp?
each fxr seems to be different. I have been ported, mega, carb, cams and cdi.. yet still some al stocko's are faster (rider abilty, weight?)
You need to remember how fast you can go on a 14hp bike when u only weigh 55-60kg
If this engine blows Id stick with a boger.
Well you are mid field, so I guess on a stock motor it wont change things that much for you for you
And as far as wheels go, wide rims might fit the tyres beter but they add weight.
I agree with you on that point! :shit:
ps: by stock I mean a rejet and pipe hack (seems to make the best improvment) by different I mean I have set two fxrs up like this yet both feel different hence my comment they all seem to differ.
No two bikes are the same in any case, so not sure what your point is here!
then again LMAO, ya all seen me hauling serious arse last year at TRRS... well in pratice, till the big BANG :)
Hauling arse on your modified motor? ugggg the contridictions!
Your bike is one of the quicker FXR's here, it should be finishing in the top 5 at every race, yet man mountain Buddha keeps you honest on his fairly stock engine bike... what exactly is happening here? I think you need to stop worrying about your knitting and ride harder like you used to do!

I'm thinking as there is no BOB for you welly lot this year that someone should talk to bmrc pres and ask for the N'v'S cup to take up to the TRRS, after all Dave put a good effort into making it, with intentions of it being raced for each year.
If the 4 canty riders beat finish across the line ahead of the 1st 4 Masif riders it stays in canty... if 4 massif's beat the B team, the cup goes home.

have just had both bikes at the dyno yesterday :2thumbsup
the gp is way cool and 18-19 hp (didn't have to do anything to it )
now the rg50 was a different story (but I new that thats why I was there)
the bike had gone realy well at the last gp was running around in 3rd place
till the electrics decided to part company with the crank  managed to dribble home in 5th with it missing everywhere
fixed that problem only to find that the crank was a bit wobbly :pinch: (and not a wobbly design)
so stripped the engine and replaced the crank bearings Thanks E.S.E
and TZ350 for rebuilding it
got it running again and it was LEAN as ??????
changed the jet and it ran better but not good
retarded the ignition to try and fix it
the thing was just not happy ( arranged to go see JC)
the story ends with twice the HP it started with and one very HAPPY rider
now I'm off to see Avalon and get some lessons on how to throw both bikes around the track
rumor has it that she is now doing rider coaching for a small fee

You shouldn't have pulled out max. you were easily faster than me down there on the cbr!!
You keep going on how much faster the fxr's are but a have it on video you catching me and passing me down there, just cause i got back in front of ya, if you had kept the pace on you would have got me again. You pulled at least half the front straight back up on me. you have track experience down there that counts for alot. And like everyone else has said, if you spent the $9 on the right gearing you would be quicker!!!!!
And Cbr's have a higher top speed than and fxr standard from factory, and as I'm running factory gearing and assume you are due to cost then your bike is faster than most fxr's. (info sourced from suzuki japan and honda japan spec sheets) And as you've said yourself in previous posts that your cbr is way faster than your fxr.?!?!
Just cause you post some mislead info sometimes it doesn't mean you don't have talent.
I wish I had the chances and backing you have when I was your age.
The factory hyosung sponsorship sounds like a great gig that you've got, again because you've been riding really well.
I think the "cougar" might have other interest's now and buckets might not be number one and he would of got in without you pulling out. heaps of us have made it in.

thanks mate, ive got the sprocket now [and yes it was dirt cheap....}, streetstock has more people my age and id love to do well in it.
I found my fxr was faster than my cbr on tauop but my cbr is faster on a kart track {must be gearing] cant wait to test the new sprocket!!!
Anyway i plan on doing a few of the national rounds in streetstock so i need the practice. The hyosung thing isnt going to work for me {various reasons} as the bike is close to $9k and ill grow out of it pretty fast, so i found a cheap krr150 to do streetstock in.
Ill be cheering you fella's on anyhow. -Max

I pulled out, i would of liked to race buckets but i know "cougar" was even more keen so thought i might give streetstock ago.

Hi.
Thanks max,
But I didn't need the help.
There were people on the list ahead of us.
Was great the organisers are very helpfull and gave us an entry.
Why didn't you cross enter and ride both bikes? I wish i had the chance to race 2 bikes and get double the time. I found riding on Taupo heaps of fun, amazing to get on an "airfield" sized track.
You have some pretty good talent for someone so young and i thought you'd have been just as keen as me to ride?

With the racing, at this stage you need to ride in whatever class you can get the most racing on, buckets is great for this and also great for racecraft, lots of good close racing, the tarmac version of MX. The only downside I can see for you getting into SS is that it isn't a particulary active class in Auckland.
To be honest with you that is a shame because I can't see a class that runs up here that is a good fit for you. F3 possibly, F2 would rip your arms off no offence. SS or 125 would be perfect but don't seem to run up here. The Hyo class would be a good place to start, and mush as I hate to say it 9k isn't that much to get into a racebike, it isn't a cheap sport.

i am keen to ride, but after taupo i had abit of a "rush of blood to the head" and i gave my bucket entry away for a ss150 one......if i had of thought it out properly i would of done both classes.I made abit of a mistake there, but ive learnt from it and ill do both classes next year.
Henk, i know ss150 isnt big in auckland, but im happy to go to manfeild to race, and your right 600sp is too big for me and so is pro twins but i planning on using the money ive saved from not getting a hyosung to use on a protwin when im around 16. Ive got to take one step at a time and not take too big of a leap.
The hyosung class is good, but after riding one and thinking about it, ive found 9k is alot for a bike im only going to have for 1 year......and trust me in 15 months or so ill be reay for a 650.
Thanks for all your input, -Max

What do you reckon you spend on the bucket racing per year? Sorry for the personal question, you don't have to answer that if you don't want to.

My first bucket as it stands now cost me about $550. my second about $2500. Had all the gear to start with so thats entry cost.
On top of that if I was to just race at Mt Welly (which was the plan initially) it's going to cost about $50 a month to race and the annual MNZ licence fee (about $140 from memory) on top of that crash damage which to date has been minimal as a large part of the build cost and effort has been put into crash proofing. Add second hand slicks and wets once a year (guess) and oil and filter twice and you're looking at about $1000 a year as long as nothing serious gets smashed and it doesn't blow up. As soon as you start travelling it adds up. First trip away this weekend but I used to budget $300 to $500 a weekend away doing enduros and the like.

That used to be a Mantra at the Ohakea GPs, - the next day's racing was often decided the night before in the bar. Stubbies were $1.70ea. No wonder people joined the airforce.
