My apologies if this is this has been asked before. Just wondering what this moshin gear on Trademe is like?

I'm wanting at least some WINTER cordura pants and a jacket... don't want leather for winter as I can't be bothered waterproofing it after every other downpour I'm in, I'm moving out of my house to somewhere that doesn't have a fire so wont be able to dry the leather out if it does get wet. So... cordura it is.

It's gotta be warm AND waterproof. So yea, how does the Moshin stuff stack up? Anyone tried any before?

Cheers fellas!

There's a few guys/girls on here that have used or own his cordura gear. I think most comments, from memory have been positive.
I have found him good to deal with, straight forward and honest. I have one of his leather jackets, and like it.
The cordura gear I have, I bought from 1Tonne, and it is really good stuff IMO.
Use the search button. There are a few posts around here somewhere :)

Shoot into your local bike shop you can get crazy arse deals on cordura these days, personally I would get Tecnic, I would recommend a quality Leather brand with an over suit as being the best for protection, as it crashes better than textiles

Picked up a pair of ixon pants last week.Removable ce armour ,zip out liner, padding in all the right places and seem to be waterproof and warm to boot reduced from $229 to $129. I checked out deals at motomail and trademe's c-nell who sell Nerve and reckon what I got were the best in the price bracket .

Moshin leather jacket is ok,not great, but was a good buy off trademe, certainly wouldn't pay $399 or so for them, cordura is best from bike shops can try it on,cost to return wrong sized jackets aint cheap(Moshin sent us wrong sized first time, fixed up freight though),managed to get 2 dri rider jackets for $119 on special at bike shop.

Try cash converters we sold our old jackets there, but research your prices, sold mine for $80 and in the shop for $225(was $225 new 4 yrs ago)albeit the jacket was as new.

Thanks for the help guys. Been reading the 1Tonne and Moshin threads and it seems there's a mixed opinion... I'm sure they're pretty safe, I'm morried about how well the waterproofing is though as that's why I'm getting new gear.

Might just be easier if I go back to Holeshot, the dudes there were awesome guys, had a good chat with em! I'll be getting a helmet and gloves too (summer gloves in this cold are terrible!!!) so they should be able to sort me out.

Thanks again!

Have a Mohsin jacket. Its been fine. My son has borrowed it a few times as well. Hes found it warm and waterproof on short trips (I bought it as a summer jacket). Their feedback is 100% so can't be all bad.

I have bought a leather jacket and pants off him and they are fine
he is happy for you to go round there and try the stuff on no eftpos though
Consensus here seems to be that Leather with cheap plastic over trou and top is the best option . After a bin the cordura needs to be thrown away but leather can be repaired.

Yeah ... I agree with you. Leather is best for protection if you are about to be acquainted with 'Mr Road' on a one on one situation. Chuck some wet weather gear over top. You get the best of both worlds then.
If you can only afford a set of cordura gear though ... basic stuff is a lot better than not wearing any kind of protection. 1Tonne would be my pick though for good quality cordura gear. Haven't seen Mohsin's cordura stuff yet, but I like the one leather jacket I bought off him. He's a nice guy to deal with, as are the "1Tonne people".

The mixed opinions of 1Tonne most likely consists of the positives being people who actually own 1Tonne gear and negatives being people who don't. I have 1Tonne gear and it's excellent. You definately get more than you pay for, it may not be the ultimate in safety, but if you want that then you may aswell cut of your dick and roll yourself in bubble wrap.

I don't own any 1tonne gear as yet, but I plan to!

For the price you pay, I think you get q bit of bang for your buck ... NDORFN's leather jacket from 1tonne is great, and I am particularly looking at eventually getting some gloves and boots from them.

Just like everything else in clothing, a lot of the time you are paying for the 'Well Known' label ... which doesn't necessarily mean it's any better then anything else. And seems nowadays, anyone can say anything about their products superiority to others, and 'Mew and Improved' technologies ... what the hell does that mean anyway ... if it's NEW how can it be IMPROVED??

Mmm.....know what you mean but leading brands only succeed if they keep their quality up. That's part of the reason for a brand - reputation for quality and backup. For which you pay a premium.

BMW gear is expensive but proven. There's a report somewhere of an adv rider who did 100,000k in his BMW adventure suit and it was still going strong. Cost $2000 but well worth it.

So as buyers we each make a judgement call. Balance quality and reliability against cost. You do pay extra for a brandname. Is it worth it? Only you can decide.

Quasi is a good example of a local reputable brand - quality, backup, and not expensive.

I put 1tonne in a different category but they have good support here and I am considering one of their cordura jackets.

I swung into motomail (www.motomail.co.nz) and picked up a Rev'it jacket and pants, really comfy and snug. CE armor in the elbows/shoulders/knees and padding up the spine. Picking up an armored back-protector for it soon. Zip-out thermal lining (waterproof with or without). With the lining out it was cool enough to ride around in circles in a parking lot in the sun the other afternoon and with the lining in I can wear it inside for about 2 minutes before starting to sweat.

For anything outside town it sounds like leathers and an oversuit would probably be the go though.

Buy from a Shop mate, that way you can try on different models to find what fits you the best.
A good base model is the Macna Trip Pants. Retail for $199.
I have been selling these for over a year now and havnt had 1 come back. Now thats saying something!

Good luck in your search.

You getting the RJays turtle-shell :second: from upstairs?

If you are...you MAY want to consider the Shift moto-x armoured jersey :first: from downstairs, if they still have them...

jono035
5th June 2009, 19:05
Ah yeah? The back protector that I was looking at was one for going into the pocket in the jacket for simplicity, not even sure what brand it was, thought it was a Rev'it one as well, but not sure about that.

The jersey is a piece for wearing separately?

Same here (RevIT from Motomail).

Seems like good gear. I like the armour (Knox), and the jacket/pants have been dry in the couple of good downpours Ive had them in so far (though not long exposure, probably 30 mins).

Ive got the 'Ride' jacket, but to be honest, I dont find it particularly warm. I typically find that I need at least an icebreaker (260g) AND another layer such as a skivvy or another icebreaker over top of that before Im warm-ish, but I would never say toasty.

Now they DO have some of their old higher-end 3 layer jackets (seperate removable waterproof liner) which DID have me sweating inside in about 2 mins, but I cant stand the concept of having to do up 2 separate zips, and all the assosciated faffing around that comes with that.

jono035
5th June 2009, 21:12
I got used to the 2 zip thing pretty quick, the second one is in place and easy to do up because the first one holds everything in place for ya.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Ended up going back to Holeshot today and got all suited up.

I bought:

Waterproof Cordura winter jacket with armour
Waterproof cordura winter pants with armour
Waterproof winter gloves (the new dririder alpine's)
KBC VR-2 Helmet
AND A CAN OF CHAIN LUBE THROWN IN!!!

All for $730 :D

All in all, I'm VERY happy with my purchase. Wore the gear on the ride home and stayed dry AND WARM in the small shower I rode through. The dudes at Holeshot were, as before, extremely helpful. Might have to take up the offer of riding with you guys when I get me new bike!

Now all I gotta do is wait and hopefully a good deal will pop up.

Thanks again fellas!

Good on you Metalor, sounds like you got just what you need. Personally I thought Quasi's offer was extremely good but clearly Holeshot looked after you too. And for winter cordura is the go.

What brand?

Metalor
5th June 2009, 23:58
I didn't actually see Quasi's offer until after I bought everything. Very good offer though I must say, appreciated!

The jacket and Pants are made by Neo. Only heard good things about them and both the Dave and Matt at Holeshot wear them on a daily basis so had no worries that'd they do the job. The gloves are dririder. Helmet(fibregleass) was $450 alone!

Damn good price on the Quasi stuff,
I got a blazing red jacket off him maybe a month back during the May specials, its pretty much the business. I tried some of my mates gear before I bought (Teknik textile and Moshin leather) but neither stack up to my new jacket, by far the best piece of safety gear I own

Just went and grabbed gloves/back protector from motomail. Only problem was getting out of their car park  made an idiot of myself wringing the shit out of the bike and then stalled/flooded it once I got to the top :o
