View Full Version : WTB xt600 motor
Well it seems the XT has finally died..........so I'm on the hunt for another complete motor or top end.
If any body has one kicking about in the back of the shed or knows where one is, let me know, whole bikes also considered

Yah reckon that was a bit of nip up at the beiginning of the New Creek Track? What has caused the demise? Just age, or is there something you can point to?

For my headlight? yeah looks like it.

Same motor though, but I/we aren't paying that much for a new motor if we can help it, remember, the DR's in bits too

Yip, that was probly the start,
Essentially the bike ran out of oil, but she topped it up before leaving home.I was riding the bike to work on monday when it completely died, there was oil on the dipstick in the reservoir, but none in the motor.
It's a real dog to get the oil level right on.
I will be going to see Baz Bikes tomorrow to get them to explain why they used a non standard head gasket and punched holes in it to get it to fit, also to show them the results of thier shit job.
FAAAAAARK, I'm pissed off

Also open to sensible suggestions of other options.I could probly get a GSXR750 motor but it would make her bike faster than mine and thats not an option really

The CT motor would fit.
With that tank it'd have a 2000km range too...

Arse.
XTs seem to have awkward issues. Quite a few RTW travelers on XTs have had similar ongoing grief with them.

I'm sure you've seen this one as well? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Dual-purpose/auction-222698708.htm. Bit expensive, but compared to an engine rebuild?
Or is Mrs Jatz ready for the KTM yet?

So I hear, thats why we thought the oil leakage was "normal" and just kept an eye on it, I'm still going to see the last repairers to find out why they did some dodgy stuff and didn't do other stuff.

Bugger ,Jatz ,having two bikes off the road at once :weep:
All is not lost though , I,ve come up with a cunning plan ; put the BIG tank on the CT , then you will be able to use the BIG's rego (no one will know the difference) and at least you won't get pulled over for speeding .

That would be good, I don't mind getting a whole bike if the owner wants to get rid of it.

That got fixed not long after.
This problem was a plate that holds the wires down in the stator casing coming adrift and breaking the pickup coil wires.
Ordered a new stator while they had that apart. That got fitted over a month ago and now "new" problems keep arising....Which I'm not going to go into on here.
Also,if you're after parts, try Andersons M/C wreckers up north. When I had to replace that R/H clutch casing,he was the only one who had any and I'm sure he mentioned he had a later model engine also.
