Feel like a leisurely ride through the most scenic part of the South Island. 700- 1000 kms ridden at your own pace. Well its on.
The ride must be completed between 20th August and the end of November (hell, even I'm not that slow) and costs a mere $15 to enter.

That's only a day ride. Shame it's over the ditch though.

Thats a good idea and I will be a starter.
How many KB'rs live along the route - looks like you'll need to get your spare rooms and floorspaces ready!!!
I'm sure some will plan bits of it to work in with going to the Penguin

While it is only a day ride for some... you do have to remember to add time to find and answer the questions... and food and fuel... becomes a long day
It all just a bit of fun... to get people out riding, you may learn something new, go on a road you have never been or or just doing it for fun... take the time to have a bit of a look about at some to the spots of interest... enjoy the scenary etc... have got a couple of people that are going to do it over 3 or 4 days and make a bit of a holiday out of it... ;)

I like the idea of dossin down at the various abodes of KBers that live on the route. those who have ample room naturally - in the house or on the lawn...
Sounds like a good trip! Yeah and tagging all or part of it onto the Pissed Penguin would be fun, make a decent weekend of it, as the PP  is only a one nighter I think too (Saturday)

Fantastic, its a great way to encourage people to get out and ride, the lastest 'BIKE' magazine has a article listed 'The great escape' which is to complex to blab on here but its a type of competition with a difference, to encourage riders to get out and about.

I intend doing it starting around 3:00 pm, grab around 6 hours kip, then do it again. Twice in 24 hours will be good practice for the 1000.

I am very keen. As with phaedrus, I would prefer to ride with someone...although I am not a daredevil again yet so would need someone patient and preferrably from Dunners.

This is the last call for the Escapade 2009 close off for the entries is tomorrow night. 21st August.
So if you want to do it get that entry form in, if I don't have it you will have to wait till next year.. the online form will be switched off tomorrow night
Online Entry (http://www.southernrider.co.nz/escapade) and can be do banking vie Internet as well.
We have a good 62 entries ready to go... (with a possible of few more) that 3 from Auckland, rest are from ChCh, Farlie, Ashburton, Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin, Cromwell, Alexandra
Looks like the final number for the 1st Escapade will be around 65. That is awesome, both Xaria and myself say thank-you and we hope you enjoy it and have fun. The challenge is to get and not miss the questions. They are easy.
We are already thinking for next year

Clyde
It has been pointed out that we did make a booboo and I most likely just wrote the wrong date down when we drove past collecting the questions oh 6 months to a year ago. Also since then the Wine & Spirit Merchant Central Store has had a make over and a paint and they have painted over the date, I am unsure if they will repaint it on.
Hey we all make mistakes. But didn’t want you all mulling over it wondering do I still get the badge etc. The simple answer is “yes…” (at the end of the day its all about having fun and getting you out riding.)
Amendment
Clyde. Fuel Food Question 10: Go to Sunderland Street (the main street in Clyde) just past petrol station & the pub.
What year did was the “Wine & Spirit Merchant Central Store” built in? (Now Olivers or something)
This is the building that has had a paint job, you may be able to get the date from the for sale sign. If you can’t find it don’t worry about it.
Question 11: What year was Lodge Dunstan built in?
This is the building I wrote down the wrong date, “Disregard the clue”. Get the date of the lodge not the extension. if you are unsure both... :-)
Sorry for that, but these things happen…
To those that have already done this years Escapade and pointed this error out, thanks and well done hope to see you next year. Next year I am hoping to have more of a helping hand putting it together. HINT HINT
To those that have not done it as of yet… the feed back we have had is, they have had a blast doing it.
Regards
