View Full Version : Thread Dredges
Closing old threads.
Other forums I belong to automatically close threads after a defined period of time.
My example here is from a thread "Scott Watson links " perhaps relevant after the Bain case .... perhaps, new member decides to post some comments on a thread over 2 years old.

Question is "Should KB close threads after x months ? "

A big part of me who hates thread dredges says "Yes".... the other part of me that hates reposts says "No". Then we can't give Noobs crap about not using the search function!!

Nah, dredges are amusing and interesting. A good chance to see the difference in attitude / demeanour of some people.
Lets face it, if a noob asks a question that has been asked before EG Is there a KB wave. Someone will link to it anyway.

Know what you mean. However sometimes eg. Scott Watson the thread is useful to set out the full background and continue the argument. Of course if an old thread is locked it can still be linked to for reference so nothing is lost.
The main problem with old threads is unless you check the date when looking, you can be misled thinking its new. That's slightly annoying but those threads die very quickly.

Being a new 'knoob' here, i did some early dredging but your right the thread dies quickly then you discover theres a great 'search' engine and away you go in the right direction.
Damn will someone tell me how you select out parts of peoples posts, so your only refering to a small part of what they say?

A very early thread welcoming members to these forums from back in 2002 has come up in R&R. I have put a reply on it but didn't dredge it. I suspect there are 'issues' going on behind the scenes at present.
If there is could we please see the two technician girlies screen we saw before?? :bleh::bleh::baby::baby::2thumbsup:2thumbsup

When I am King, I shall pass a series of laws banning things that really fuck me off. The penalty for offending shall be death.
Inanity? Death.

What else would I do on KB if I couldn't dredge?

You can't dredge a new thread. That's just digging yourself into a hole.
