The last I had heard of Neptune Mufflers & Mark,he was only doing export stuff, was not interested in local work
If you need a muffler or exhaust made get a hold of Damon at Cycleworks in Wellington, has been around for over twenty years & does a great job, does road or dirt

Well that aint nice not selling to the locals, know a guy with a SV1000 who has a pair and they look great with the black paint of the bike. Oh well.

Well anyway I was just curious as I might be getting VTR1000 soon and just wanted to see what options are best for making the exhausts better. Is it better to just de-baffle the originals or get some can put on?

If your budget allows get the cans and keep the stockers for 'just in case' WOF time. Also when/if you sell the bike you can put the stock pipes back on and sell the cans on Trademe later :2thumbsup

Well I don't see too many used cans for a VTR on Trademe so I guess some people biff out their originals or sell them.

I'd keep a watch on TM for a matching pair of aftermarket cans in good condition as it is easy to get a intermediate link pipe made up for the bike.

Something I missed?

Aha.. my bike went for a little skid down the road and one of those Neptune's is now looking a bit worse for wear. Freedom Suzuki spent a week trying to get hold of the Neptune guy and when they finally did, he sounded a bit like he's gone out of the muffler business. He could only repair mine in normal stainless as he didn't have any of the black stuff left. A bit stink really when they aren't that old. Now i'm going through the whole drama of trying to choose new cans. Freedom got me in some carbon fibre Yoshi's but they ended up being round and not oval so I don't really want those. Now we are looking at bringing in some Yoshi RS-3's but it's gonna cost me.
Looking for more options at the moment!

I understand carbon fibre cans aren't suitable for V-Twins? Something about the viabrations being bad for the cans. But kinda sad the company is out of business as I think their producs looked nice.

I just read this thread yesterday, and as I'm thinking about some cans I clicked on the Neptune link in the original post and it took me straight to their website.
So while I was there I filled out the form to request a price and recieved a price back that same afternoon.
So if you aren't having any sucess it might be worth tyring them again, and if you can't get their website to load, perhaps the problem is at your end.

Got my Neptunes last night, Mark was awesome to deal with and the pipes are exceptionally well made. Mine were a customization of a megaphone style of muffler and Mark was only to happy to help. Great to see such great service from a quality local business. The end product looks the business and sounds like nothing else. I spent most of my blast this morning laughing like a lunatic :2thumbsup coz they sound so cool. I would seriously recommend Neptunes for anyone looking for a set of pipes :2thumbsup
