View Full Version : RRRR (Round Ruahine Range Ride) #2

marks
7th June 2009, 16:45
I enjoyed Barts RRRRR (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=90693&highlight=rrrr) in March so much that I want to do it again.

Intention is to leave Paraparaumu on Sat (27th June) morning at 9.00 sharp from the disused Mobil service station (just before Burger King on main Rd) and head up to Shannon for coffee then head up to Ashhurst to meet with any 'northeners' at 11.00 at the service station. Leaving Ashurst 11.15 sharp(ish)

From there it would be up to Taihape for a late lunch (1-2) via a rats nest of gravel roads via Utuwai/Apiti/Upper Kawhatau etc etc.

From Taihape to Napier via the Gentle Annie to stay at the Westshore Holiday Park (http://www.westshoreholidaypark.co.nz/index.html) same as last time. There is a good feed at the pub across the road etc.

Sunday - basically follow the coast as much as possible (possibly including the beach bit between Aramoana and Blackhead) down towards Pongaroa and then possibly off to Pahiatua for afternoon tea then back home - maybe via North Range Rd and Shannon etc.

All easy stuff. All low key - make it up as we go along. No sign up page - either turn up - or not.

anyone interested?

I was planning on taking the PD away with me but if the G/S is going you can use it. I just need to find time to change the coils over and see if thats the issue.

And this trip has been on the cards for a while. Both parents 60th birthdays.

Hi Mandy.
 what time can we pick up steve, for the ride to napier over cool gravel roads, pub meal and laughs over a few beers with the boys.

 we will make sure he brings you home some jewels, or dimonds, or a new dress...:2thumbsup

we will look after him...

its not good to leave a bike sitting for to long, as in side the engine might go rusty, so its best to take it on a 2 day ride....

okay bitches

ride dates are confirmed as 27th/28th June

if I dissapear of the face of the earth its because I've accumulated too many "infraction notices" for posting oversized images (800x600 instead of 640x480 FFS) so in that case Dave(Palladin) will be the point of contact

sort out your own avccomodation in Napier.

Here (http://www.westshoreholidaypark.co.nz/index.html) is where I will stay (same as last time).

Cabin booked!!! Connor & Benjah are booked in with me.

FYI the Refurbished kitchen cabins work out at $68 for the night, so $22 ish per person for 3 sharing. They have a heater in them!

If you want to hire bed linen, duvet, towel they are $2.50 per item, so $7.50 for the set - you can just tell them on arrival if you want the linen.
Pillows are free if you wanna take your own sleeping bag & towel.

So, I'm definitely on this one UNLESS I get the 48hr notice call to go in for my hernia op, which is supposed to be sometime in next couple of months!
(thats what I get for havin no private health insurance! )

hi guys.
what time and where would you want to meet riders from our side.

have updated first post as follows:

Leave Paraparaumu on Sat (27th June) morning at 9.00 sharp from the disused Mobil service station (just before Burger King on main Rd) and head up to Shannon for coffee then head up to Ashhurst to meet with any 'northeners' at 11.00 at the service station.

Weather for the weekend is looking a bit dubious. If the weather is REALLY cold and REALLY wet I will crank the lecky blanket up to turbo and stay in bed....(and hopefully go the following weekend)

Hey mark, if you cancel at last minute due to weather, those of us with pre booked rooms at the Holiday park will get charged on our Visa cards holding the cabins - she told me 48hrs notice to cancel with no charge! Don't know about others, but not something I can afford at the mo after having to rent a bike for $95 yesterday which I wasn't expecting!

I'm always up for a detour up the hill if I'm on the ride btw!

Okay Takapari Rd it is

I always leave my accommodation bookings to the last minute unless I have no choice (called the holiday park from Ashurst on the last RRRR) just because to many things seem to come along and f*ck up my plans.

If the weather is really bad and I bail - it certainly doesn't stop you guys from going - although surely the holiday park would let you slip the booking back to the following weekend?

I've just heard that there is a memorial ride for Zukin (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=2038&day=2009-6-27&) in the Coromandel this weekend.

It would be nice if we could find someway of remembering him on this ride - they are collecting money for the Westpac helicopter so maybe those who are financial enough can make a donation which I could forward on to the memorial ride organizer?

Am sure you were probs already hard at work and test was 12.45 so it was unfortunately very short notice on my part. C'est la vie!
