Heya all, had a slight mishap today on some grass and managed to slip over and faceplant in the mud, unfortunately i was on my bike when this happened and managed to crack two small parts in the fairings, they're fairly minor cracks, but i'd like to get them fixed up, as the bikes almost brand new :argh:, it's insured, but i'm thinking it's probably not worth the excess to claim it? anyone know any good repair places that could fix small cracks like these?

Plastic welding is a waste of money, it has fuck-all strength and it doesn't last. If they're not that bad, leave them. Battle-scars man!

The welding is fairly cheap its the painting thats the pain in the ass.

was wondering about that, the fairings are black, so it doesnt actually look like they're even painted? i'm guessing they must be right? my flatmate seems to think they're moulded in that colour, but i'm not so sure.

Thanks duke, misread your profile name lol, i've left him a message on his profile as i dont seem to be able to PM.

Never realised these fairings had been painted, i guess i can repaint them if need be, i wouldn't mind a new paintjob to be honest, blacks a little on the evil side to keep clean haha :-)

Ever considered painting it Red?. Not that Im biost but I just reckon that Red is a cool colour on any motorcycle especially on DUCATI"S.:2thumbsup

haha, i was thinking seriously about a red/orange blend actually, possibly with some white, i'd not mind paying some $$ for a decent custom paintjob, just no idea where to get one done and how much it'll set me back :-)

i do have a semi *cough* decent excuse now, even if it's a few hairline cracks lol

Sounds good but just remember the money you go spending on a great paint job you wont get back if and when you ever decide to sell your bike. Whats the possibilities of you doing yourself which would be 1 way of getting out of it cheaply?.

You will do it again yet, so don't bother just yet.

it's a crap load of work to do yourself. trust me. I took on a vfr painting project and THEN researched it... there's the sanding down, the priming, then the multiple layers of paint application, with sanding in between each layer. The process is even further complicated by the addition of other colours...

If the cracks are really small you can get them to weld the back of it and you wont notice it on the front. Will stop them getting any worse and will cost ya less than $50.

You could try superglue and duck tape (on the underside of the fairing) seems to be holding my fairing together while i wait for the new one to arrive

Well, i got two pretty resonable quotes today, both approx ~200 for repairs and touch up paint, quoted $550 for repairs and total paintjob which is looking pretty attractive if i'm honest. :-)

Will have to wait till next month now regardless, as i've got moving costs to factor into this months pay

The from the sounds of things it's not as expensive as i was thinking it was going to be, so i'm not freaking out now lol.

now to decide on the orange... http://www.hoely.de/kawasaki/pics/umbauten/2008/zx10_08_2/2.jpg

it's really a zx10 .. honest!

Total paintjob meaning all fairings and tank? Sounds bloody cheap to me! I was quoted $200 for welding, painting and stickering and i thought that was a bit over the top just too get rid of a 30cm scar! If i could get my entire bike done for $550 i would consider it.

That orange does look good

That orange looks awesome with the black. Is that how your going to get it painted or are you just going to get it painted orange all over?. Putting a few stickers on it without over doing would look cool also.

I'm thinking of doing a split, having the orange on most of the fairings, with the a black stripe leading up over the standard decals and keeping the tank black, (might save some pennies but that's secondary - i rekon it'd look awsome)..

and yep, throwing some stickers on there sounds good as well!!

Thinking seriously about getting some sliders tho as well, i'd probably have saved myself some dosh majorly if i'd had some on it - but it's kinda a good excuse to give it a unique paintjob

How about once you have it painted you put a couple of photos on here to gives a look at it. Goodluck with it and I hope from now on you manage to keep it upright. Dont want to go out paying for another face lift on it.
