Just wondering roughly how much shops charge to do valve clearances? I know It's a pretty full on job... definitely not gonna try doing it myself!

Full on job? On a Volty? You've got to be kidding.

Takes all of 15 minutes... including taking the fuel tank off so you can get at the intake valves.
Next one of Steve's workshop days, bring it around.
EDIT: Actually you can't do that unless you want to leave it there over night -- engine needs to be stone cold.

Haha, sorry guys, I forgot to say for a hornet 250... a bit more going on in those engines than in the volty!

Still not a major, just a little different and more involved but hardly rocket science. Have someone teach you to do it - it's psychologically very rewarding and satisfying.
