Foremost Pegram Racing's Larry Pegram won the Elkhart Lake Sunday Superbike race, taking a thrilling win in a race-long shootout with Mat Mladin.
The two traded the lead numerous times, with Pegram strong on the straights but also formidable throughout.
For Larry, it is his second career Superbike win, with the last occurring at Willow Springs in 1999 on the Fast By Ferracci Ducati on Michelin tires.
"It's unbelievable," said Pegram. "To have worked to build a team with a bike capable of winning, and then to win a race is awesome."
He added: "Hopefully it won't be ten more years before I win again."
For Ducati, their last AMA Superbike win was Eric Bostrom's Mid-Ohio victory in 2005.
With two laps to go, Pegram took the lead and held it, even as Mladin ran him down. The final margin of victory was 0.342.
Aaron Yates and Blake Young trailed closely, but Yates and Young came together with Young getting the worst of the incident when he hit the ground.
Thats now two races in past 4 that Mat Mladin has lost, one to R1, and now one to 1098
