I just bought myself an iPhone, I like it but being a complete virgin to all things Mac/Apple etc (ok, I have an ipod, but it's been a pure fluke I've managed to get the thing to work) I'm a bit stumped!
Does anyone know how to load your own ringtones onto the iPhone?
I've read stuff on the web about downloading this programme and this thing etc, but it all mean shit to me and then I end up with a virus or it wipes shit. Hubby won't help me, he always mumbles something along the lines of "Bloody Apple, I hate that shit, why do you think I avoid all Mac products"... etc etc.
Anyone out there done it or know how it's done.... I keep wiping all my music off my phone everytime I try to change the settings waaaaaaaaa!!! :(

Do it through iTunes... I recall...

http://theappleblog.com/2008/08/07/free-custom-iphone-ringtones-using-only-itunes/ And I said to Kendog to get you to contact me if you needed help...
Kendog looks for the hard (Microsoft) way to do things - instead of the easy way. Dragging songs the the iPod... what an archaic way of doing it.

There's a ringtone thing up the top of the menu when you plug the phone into itunes and it has some sync options... but everytime I change the options I end up wiping the music off my phone. Is there a sequence to the boxes you tick in the other menus to do with the syncing process?

Are you sure you're not trying to change the ring tone on your TV remote?

Did you sync the iPhone with iTunes? Have you got ringtones in iTunes?

I think so.... Skunk... you know how thick I am!!!
Ok, so I've been doing what it says to do in that link you put up but I can't get it to convert, it doesn't give me any of the options it says it should.

He's wrong. You just have to be open minded enough to do things more than one way.
In the preferences for iTunes is a checkbox to 'show ringtones.' They show in the Library when checked.
Then drag any that you already have onto an itunes window, or use the menus to import them, buy them, whateva. They show in a playlist.
Sync the iPhone.
There's a tab for managing the ringtones.

Ok, so I've managed to create a ringtone that is in my library under ringtones but when I go to the menu under my iphone and it asks you to tick a box to sync selected ringtones it brings up a message that it'll delete all music on my phone.

Check the box NOT to sync music.
If you are going to use an iPhone long term - importing your library and managing it in iTunes is worthwhile anyway.
I love the apps store.

But it's an Apple? It should be intuitive and never break unlike those pesky kids and their Windoze.
Next time buy a blackberry storm (http://www.blackberry.com/blackberrystorm/).

Yes.... I was eyeing one of those up but it was a bit more pricey than the iPhone.... and hubby said Blackberry's are even more prone to being a pain in the arse than apple.... :girlfight::lol:

So what's the difference between a song and ring tone? On a 2002 Microsoft phone you can use either for ringtones, system messages, music, anything you like... Surely the iPhone in all its greatness does too?

Blackberrys may or may not be a better communications device. Not my primary interest.
As an entertainment device the iPhone/iPod is outstanding.
I load it up with TV and music and games when I hit the road and it's just brilliant.

There's always one pervert lurking in these forums. Palm is my friend too but sometimes I can get my girlfriend drunk enough to not need Palm

Oh shhhhhhhh!!! That was one thing that made me almost not buy it. Infact I had talked myself out of getting one but it kept nagging at me and saying "Buy me, you know you want me!!"
