It has been said that Nostrodamus has predicted the end of the Earth sometime 2011.
Anybody actually believe this?

Everyone who has predicted the end of the earth previously has been wrong.
Can I choose both? He was a crackpot but also the man. (And wrong)

But wasn't it end of civilization as we know it he predicted ?
Or was that, that a man with a towel on his head changes it ?
Or was it that a rogue planet (aparently hidden by the sun) actually comes into our orbit in 2012 that is suppose to fuck up our G ?
Soooo vague !!!!!!
Can't wait !

That's how I interpreted the book I read, the end of the world as we know it, a new world order!
What is the world as you know it anyway? Just when you think you may know it, it's not what it seemed at all!!
Live for today;)

I reckon Nostrodamus' 'predictions' are extreemly vauge dibble that can only 'predict' anything when applied to an event after it has happened. A few years back I heard Gary McCormick take one of Nostrodamus' dire predictions that supposedly 'predicted' something like 911, and apply it to the All Blacks loosing the world cup because Helen Clark was PM. It fitted perfectly.
The Mayan calender stops at 2011 - I think that confirms it for me.

Holy crap! Mine finishes on December 31st - this year!
Ha, we are not doomed. He is so wrong.
Here's why. According to my interpretations, in 1555 Nostradamus predicted that Chelsea would beat Everton in the 2009 FA Cup final 2-1 with Dider Drogba scoring the winner. Wrong, it was Frank Lampard.
I was watching something on NG or Doco channel or something, and one of few main reasons a lot of people think he was right was the prophesy's from the Mayan calender. Basically from what I gather, it said that on 2012 the earth will undergo a huge change that will change the world as we know it... That might actually be a good thing.

I've heard similar, that the prediction is of a change in thinking or 'consciousness' in the human race.
Either way, there is no point worrying as I'd say that whatever may happen is bound to be out of your control, and as the saying goes 'it is usually the case that worrying about an event is much more painful than the event itself'.
Nothing is for certain until it has already happened.
I have been doomed to die since the moment I was born. Nostradamus prophecy has been around for a very long time now :blip: as have many other doomsday theories. Like I said, I have been doomed from day one. Today is the important one for me, not what may or may not happen at some place in the future that I may not be around to witness anyway.

Personally, I think that all doom should be arrested until you lose your virginity.
It is against man and god to die a virgin.
And so, I respectfully call upon all and any entity which has designed the end of times, doom, death, etc, to all on planet earth, to withhold until NDORFN becomes a non-virgin.

It seems to me that so many predictions can be twisted to suit the circumstances or the way they are read.eg from the old greek geeks "Your ships the waves will conquer".

NO!
Ancient, current and future Jewish practice....."Prophecy and fulfilment".
What you think about generally takes place, or you attribute random happenings to your thinking!
Unfortunately for the rest of us the "Perato principal" applies. (20/80 rule)
A small percentage of influential religious nutters control the majority of us and influence our thinking and behaviour!

Some guy has come up with the prediction that Mars or Venus will slam into the earth. Something to do with orbital chaos. Mind you it won't happen untill another three billion odd years.

While temperatures have been rising, there are signs that things may swing the other way.
The increased heat has done something ( I forget what ) that causes intense cold blasts, and some predictions are that rather than heat, we may be in for an ice age. A bit like the planet is overcompensating for the increased heat.
The theory was that the planet goes in phases of hot, cold, hot, cold, and was gradually heading towards a more stable permanent state. But with human intervention by way of greenhouses gasses, it's swinging off balance again and could be swinging back to cold again. There is a bit of data to support it, but I couldn't be bothered checking it out.

All of the changes they say are happening exclusive to today's doomsday have been happening for thousands of years. Clash of "good" vs. "evil"? Check(since humans). Plagues? Check(since civilization) Floods? Check (since before anyone was around). Earthquakes? Check (well I can't believe my lazy ass using a fossil fuel engine for everything contributed to earthquakes and ice ages back in old 30, 000 BCE). All vague signs can be attributed to any period of time - Thats why they like them so much.

Every few years there's another "never-seen-before Nostradamus prediction" unearthed (using new scientific analysis!). It was supposed to be the end in 1997, then 2000, then 2001 (because our calendars were wrong or sumthin'), 2007 was the end according to some... nada.
Guess we'll have to wait 'till 2012, eh?
