Yes. Saw that. Immigration is a higher priority than poor driving standards then? Wonder how Andy "Grumpy and Aggressive" Knackstedt will represent that issue?

What, someone had their hand up his bum to move his lips to the pre-recorded track strung together from previous Knackstedt TV interviews?

Yeah, i don't recall either of my driving tests (since I got disq for 18 months years ago and had to resit) having bugger all in them about being able to actually drive or control a car. It was mostly about keeping one eye glued to the speedo to make sure you sat between 48.5 and 49.9km/h, the other eye scanning everything down side streets. I don't think I got to spend too much time looking where I was going. No one checked to see if I could stop the car in a hurry without locking it up and planting it sideways into a school bus, nor whether I could turn it quickly and safely enough to avoid said school bus when it pulled out without looking...
In a line of 3 cars, there's an old fart in a Daewoo doing 40km/h down the perfectly clear road... behind him is the Asian women in her BMW travelling a respectful 60m behind him (don't want to invite a nose to tail) at an identical 40km/h. Behind them both is the mid-20s guy in the rice rocket with 18inch chromies.
Who gets pulled?
So who farkin cares if the asians got their license out of a weet-bix box - no ones gonna do anything about it!

Well, some of us have been putting forward our own little anecdotal evidence, and been thoroughly rubbished for objectionable racist comments...
Just another biassed media beat-up??
Whatever, it was a strong opening story for Campbell.

What, someone had their hand up his bum to move his lips to the pre-recorded track strung together from previous Knackstedt TV interviews?Everyone will be safe so long as these drivers do not exceed the prescribed speed limit. Remember that speed limit is there for a reason. Speed kills. The statistics that we skew prove it conclusively and without a doubt. If you speed, be prepared to kill. I think it's important to remember that we all have loved ones out there that should not be subject to those people out there who are trying to kill them by speeding, and we here at LTNZ firmly believe, and we have the data backed up by our own statistical analysis that proves that these asians, although completely incompetent drivers, will only kill you if they speed. So if we can just get it through to these asians that they should not speed then I think this whole crisis of their competence on the road can be averted without any loss of life that would happen if they were to speed.

John Campbell at 7, new program as far as im aware today, watched it about some licencing scam with asian drivers. They could pay $400, not sit a test and yet get sent out a licence within 10 days. Now i understand how bad the cagers in auckland really are! Was actually realy informative and just darned nasty how they were so up front about it all with the scamer and stuff.
All in all i quite enjoyed it and think ill watch it again. I even caught a glimpse of him leaning back in his plushy new chair.
Anyone else see it? and whats your response?

I think the most disappointing aspect of this issue is that tales of fraud like this have reached almost urban legend status in Auckland, yet it took a "current affairs" show looking for a high-profile story to open with to actually find some proof. Just what have the LTSA/Police/Serious Fraud Office been up to?
:spudwhat:

Just what have the LTSA/Police/Serious Fraud Office been up to?LTSA - skewing statistics and trying (with some success) to convince people that exceeding the speed limit will kill you
Police - taking advantage of skewed statistics to maximise tax collection for their masters in parliament
Serious Fraud Office - Investigating the inappropriate distribution of the tax collected by their masters in parliament
There is no conspiracy theory... no, none at all :ar15:

I said this would happen when the AA took over. The screening processes for testing Officers is non-existant. And when you have a customer focussed, (for this, read profit motivated) organisation, some people within develope the attitude of, "they're making heaps, what's in it for me".
Strangely too; the times, bar once, I was offered inducements to pass people it was always from Asian applicants. Maybe corruption is the norm in their countries.

Whatever, it was a strong opening story for Campbell.
Yes, he was absolutely *loving* it, wasn't it? You could see the barely-suppressed giggles of glee all the way through the program.
And the 'whaka' thing... he was just about bouncing up and down in his chair with delight as he rolled that off his tongue, wasn't he?
I wonder how long they held onto that licencing story to use as an opener for this show?
Maybe corruption is the norm in their countries.
Yup. It is. I recently read a great autobiography by a Canadian woman named Jan Wong, called Red China Blues. Recommended. Look it up.
Maybe one day Chinese society as a whole will drop the corruption thing, but it's so deeply ingrained that I don't think any amount of political ideology or economic change is going to affect it in the near future. It's no surprise that it continues unabated among immigrants in other countries.

The important issue everybody seems to be missing here is “Bloody Hell, why did they move the Simpsons!”
OK most of them are re-runs but there are occasionally new ones I haven’t seen & the alternative of Dross sensationalist TV is Shortland Street & I won’t even merit that.
Crumbs it was bad enough when Prime took off Hogan’s Heroes for that Holmes chap.

Well at least in corrupt societies you know you can pay someone off to get something done. Around here, the damn bureaucrats take your money anyway then proceed to flitter it down the toilet and everyone loses. What do we prefer - corruption or incompetence?
Sorry, that was off topic...
I'm just annoyed someone blew the whistle before I got a chance to purchase a few more endorsements for my license :(

Based upon personal experience, it isn't that bad in Asia. China is a strange one though in terms of doing business and fighting through bureaucracy, in that there are processes that you need to go through, official processes, where money is paid to all manner of govt officials at every stage. Many of these so -called official processes you can’t even obtain a recept for, which makes life very difficult when trying convincing your accounts dept to pay your personal expenses after a trip there!!
Here's an official list of the worlds most corrupt nations I keep handy:
WORST TEN
Bangladesh (1.2)
Nigeria (1.6)
Paraguay (1.7)
Madagascar (1.7)
Angola (1.7)
Kenya (1.9)
Indonesia (1.9)
Azerbaijan (2.0)
Uganda (2.1)
Moldova (2.1)
-- Scores out of ten according to WTO.
And the least corrupt:
Finland (9.7)
Denmark (9.5)
New Zealand (9.5)
Iceland (9.4)
Singapore (9.3)
Sweden (9.3)
Canada (9.0)
Netherlands (9.0)
Luxembourg (9.0)
United Kingdom (8.7)

It's just as well other countries don't go for curruption... I mean image what would happen if the financial few in the States had any influence over who got elected and which policies were put in place...
... they'd end up with a puppet for President...

Why not track down the offices they're issued from (I expect this'll be logged against the records and be hard to fake) and simply track down the perps from there.
Find out who did it, pull all their files/get all licences authorised by those bods, revoke them (or only those not byond question), make the people resit at the perp's expense.
I teach my kids that if they make the mess, they get to clean it up - the same applies here. There is a mess and it'll cost moeny to fixi it up... charge them for it!
THEN add in the criminal charges
THEN CHANGE THE WAY THE BLOODY SYSTEM WORKS TO STOP IT HAPPENING AGAIN! (damn - I sound like winja *shudder*)

Not worried about them pleecing... that'd a good thing... but make the system accountable! If they're charging us to resit these licences every 10 years or whatever, they have an ongoing revenue stream coming from renewals...
They therefore have money to implement and maintain a system which works... (or is that the whole talking sense problem again... sorry - it just slips out...)
Lou - speaking of being on the streets... I'l pop by to harrass you on that other studd tomorrow...
