FROSTY
21st March 2005, 22:14
Just to let those coming to the track day know what timetable we are working to. Im trying to get us maximum track time.
7.30am --gates open /pits open.
8.00am sighn is starts -pay ya money and sighn the indemnity form.

8.05 -Scrutineering starts-bring ya bike and be wearing all ya gear.
It wont be a tough check over just a quick look to make sure lids are ok and nothings falling off the bike mirrors ar removed or taped over etc.
Ill be sorting the groups as we do the scrutineering.
9.00am marshalls brief--a quick run through on what theyll be doing.
9.15 -riders brief --a runthrough of what we'll be doing during the day and the track rules.
9.30 --Ambulance arrives
9.35 -all first timers taken on a SLOW -read VERY SLOW 4 lap sessiion on the track.
9.45 -First group out on the track.
9.45-12.30 --4 track sessions per group.
12.30-1.15 lunch break --also marshalls track session.
1.15 -4.30 -more riding.
4.30 --4.45 --second marshalls session.
5.00--barby and beer time
GREAT NEWS --I've got us use of the club garage which gets us running water power and a place to sort out the food n stuff.

Track Rules for the day.
1 Show concideration for everybody else out there
2 Stick to your line
Very important -dont try to "get out of the way"-dont worry about the guy behind you--it aint a race
3 when overtaking make sure you can do so safely. If in doubt -DON'T
4 should the front or back wheel come off the ground by "accident" make sure noones around you when you're doing it.
5 slow group riders are only to pass on the back straight before the braking cones
6 Touring group riders -no passing between hairpin and the right hander.-cones will be out to mark these points.
7 Fast group ref rule 3 also first session overtaking on the outside except on the straight.
8 if you see a flag waving anywhere on the track pull into the pits straight away -the clock will be stopped on your session so ya aint gonna miss out on laps. ANYONE trying to sneak an extra lap will miss out on the rest of that session.
9 If a slower rider is holding you up either rule 3 or pull into the pits and let em get ahead. -again--it aint a race.
10 when leaving the track hold your left hand up to let other riders know.
11 if you are unlucky enough to run off the track raise your hand in the air to let us know you're ok.
12)dont look back
14--HAVE FUN-- LOTS N LOTS OF FUN

Can that first slow session be tyre scrubbing??? Or does that wait till the first proper session...???

FROSTY
21st March 2005, 22:51
ya wont be going fast enough to scrub tyres. Its a VERY slow ride. its to look at the track and just see where the braking markers etc.

I think the first track session, for the new riders, is meant to be a NON-intimidating introduction to the track. I will be using that time to learn the course myself, since I've never been on a track before.

Just a forwarning... CENSORED

Anyhoo-people don't read --the 4 laps will be faster than a run but not much -more commuter type speeds.Slow enough to look at the track propperly

LOL, nah its not the extra track time. I will sit out the first fast group (to be fair on everyone else) but i really do need to scrub in the tyres, and i rather do it in the slow group rather than the fast group where i could cause a crash...

I dont mean to be a pain but theres appears to be about 5 threads going on regarding the day and everyone having a comment that may not be relevant.

I stay off here for 2 days and 1,200 new posts appear and its like a major effort to get through them all to get to the real deal. Tony if its not a pain can we have some kinda linking of them all. I dont know....gear required as minimum (I will need time if mines not adequate), accomodation, food (very important) and what is required for the bike preparation wise.

Maybe a fact sheet? Or have I missed reading that ?

sounds really good, cheers frosty.
a gentle ride over the track will be nice as i haven't gone out there before at taupo.

how are you going to check the bikes classed as race? my bike is road legal but will be in race trim for the day as i will be using it as a test for racing later on in april.

the bike will have:
>Glycol free anti freeze
>Lock wired sump plug, external oil filter
>Catch bottle

is this to your satisfaction??

FROSTY
23rd March 2005, 01:36
sounds fine to me john.I'm wanting the bikes to be road safe is all -other than the mirrors etc just make sure the bike will pass a wof

Wee bit of sujestion there Ton. I REALLY find it helpful to walk or ride a pushbike at walking pace around the track early in the morning going through all the braking markers and turning markers and having a good through look at the lines I would take around the track.

The slow 4 laps sounds great but if you want, you could also maybe organise a walk around the track early in the morning only for thoes who are keen and have someone like your self or hoon or TS or someone to talk the newbies through it all.

Two questions...

1, do I have to do anything with my mirrors? I'd prefer to leave them where they are, so I can, like, see behind me.

2, I only have jeans. You said they were fine a while back, and I just read that the minimum is cordura. I am not a rich man.

3, Do I HAVE to tape up my headlights? I'd prefer not to, besides they are shatter/crack resistant plastic (I use plastic for simplicity, they are some composite, but not glass)

Yes, that was 3, not 2 questions, sorry :shake:

PS: It's getting closer folks :wari: :wari:

1, you shouldnt be worrying about whats happening behind you, but whats infront of you... Its up to the person passing you to give room etc.. You should be holding you line. If you have mirrors you are more prone to changing your line because you can see what is behind you.... Changing you line is bad by the way...

2 (leaves for frosty)

3, Just for convenience of clean up if it did happen... its not too hard, just a bit of tape in a "x" shape is fine... all of 5 seconds to put on and 5 seconds for removal...

SC me ol mate--
1)Trust me mate you won't regret taping the mirrors.
You just stick to your line and let the guy overtaking you worry about how hes gonna do it.
The last thing I want is someone "getting outa the way" for a faster bike
or if theyre really unlucky scattering busted glass everywhere.
2) Dont sweat it mate--ive got trou for ya -didnt you say you had draggin jeans anyway??
3) The headlight thing is for glass headlights I'd prefer it taped but as long as its plastic itll be fine.

If I was going to do this thing, it would have only been to kick your arse! But as far as my racing budget goes, it can't be stretched enough to have 2 full on race meetings and a track day as well in the same month.

Tell you what, I'll be racing this Sunday and I'll get my times recorded. All you have to do is beat my times when you go around there on the 10th. It shouldn't be too hard, to beat a wee little 600's lap time on your 1000, now should it?

No it shouldn't.

I've done a 45 on a 1994 GSXR1100 whale on a damp track.

You got transponders this weekend? I've got a ridgy-didge lap timer now so no more relying on itchy stop watch fingers.

Coz he's ghey, hadn't you heard?

Edit: And I always said I wasn't good enough to race. No point in chucking $30K down the toilet over the next 12 months just to prove I'm slow.

Track days is where it's at son, then you can rave on for hours to anyone who'll pretend to listen about how good you are and how you once almost kicked so-and-sos arse.

I don't think there will be transponders there so it's all a matter of rounding it to the closest second.

Yea I heard, which is mighty impressive to anyone who knows what a GSXR1100 is and who knows Taupo race track.

OK, I have just been offered the job of being one of the instructors at the track by Frosty so I am going to be riding again to help some of you guys out.

As for a head to head with you WT, it still ain't possible cause I will be selling my tires to Loosebruce so I won't have sticky rubber on my bike to be going fast. I'll just chuck on some blue and bald supercorsas from last year as rim protectors to get the bike rolling.
