View Full Version : Tag-O-Rama with a twist

Maha

I got a idea brewing (dangerous stuff I know) about how this Tag thing can taken to the next level. It involves both North and South Islands, and will be on a semi fun competiton type thing...only one Island can win. I will involve all points of NZ ie: N/S/E/W and may take a team effort and some organisation. There will be a time limit but very little rules. I will add the main ideas and very little rules to this post once I fugure it out....
Any ideas welcome.

Date yet to be decided.
When its Game on, I will start seperate NI and SI Threads.

Rules
All Photos to include a Bike/s.
Time to get all photos will be two weeks.
It will start on a Saturday at 12.01am and end on a Sunday at 11.59pm
I will give Six hours notice to start time.

Photos of...(in each Island)
Most Southern point (most possible)
Most Northern point (most possible)
Most Eastern point (most possible)
Most Western point (most possible)
Highest point possible (measured)
With an Ostrich/Emu
With a Waterfall
With an Old Pub
A Town/Area sign starting with the letter 'U'.
A Watertower.
The Riddle photo. (find the landmark)
A town with a womans name.
A town with a mans name.
Inside a mall.
A well known NZer sitting on your or someones Bike.
An area or location of a National Disaster.

North Island Riddle
Trout abundant
I am also deep
A Volcano did blow
While most were asleep

South Island Riddle
A pan you will need
I am solid as a rock
Though a breakfast delight
Eat me, you cannot

This could be fun. Bit like a scavenger hunt really. I reckon the list would need to be at least twice as big to make it a challenge. Maybe have a riddle each island needs to solve to get to a location

Open to any ideas, that list is just the begining.
The riddle thing? yeah good idea, maybe for just one photo not all.

Sounds like it could be fun
A riddle for just one or 2 locations would be good.
Whats the prize? Apart from bragging rights naturally..

So how big would the teams be allowed to be? Will it be North and South Island only or are other islands within NZ acceptable?

Plenty of scope for a lot of fun!

No file photos allowed, jeez. Otherwise I'd spend 30mins with Photoshop and then the North Island'd win before the ink had dried on the thread's opening post.

This has got potential, but how am I going to get an ostrich or an emu to stand next to my bike?

Been waiting for the great KB NZ tag-o-rama to start up, but you have added a twist !!!
All the tag-o-ramas out there are open to burglars i guess, who could come and steal a tag and move it up the island or accross the ditch !
I personally would love to get involved in this one mate, whether it be at a base with google earth searching, or with a camera in my pocket being directed !!
BRILLIANT !

This has got potential, but how am I going to get an ostrich or an emu to stand next to my bike? No mention of "stand" so i figure i could shoot one and drag over over to the bike.:niceone:Rushing off to do the ultimate overkill and oil the 30-06.

No Prize, just the satisfaction of completing and competing.

No!...May even need to produce the days date, im working on it.

All part of it I guess, there will be some dumb shit going on for sure.

This is North V South Bill....will add the riddles soon, I have them sorted. Any amount can get involved in each Island, two or three people can do it on their own, the more the better really.

Each photo should require a set number of bikers to do it so harder ones may require less while easy ones need a large group gathering. That way you won't have one person doing it all in one day!

Mikkel
12th June 2009, 17:27
Where are these other islands Mikkel?

Well, we could start by saying that the South Island - despite its misleading name - isn't the southern most island in NZ.

Given a boat and a bit of ingenuity I reckon you could get a bike onto Secretary island as well...

One person couldn't do it in one day, not all points of one island anyway.
Well maybe TOTO or GIJoe....
But I get your point and will think on that.

Geez Maha, you come up with some really cool ideas

I can imagine the fun and games already.

although far from foolproof maybe every photo has to be date and time tagged....or dated recepit from a place as close as possible(maybe the "town"is nominated by you)with a photo showing the bike at a mobil station from which the recepit is issued(with aforementioned date time stamp)

Easier still, digital cameras have a date setting yes?
Which may be the better option, but if that cant happen then, yeah some proof will be needed as to the date the photo was taken.

my point is that surely the date and time on a didgi camera can be set to what ever you want!?

I guess that is possible, not 100% sure, a little bit of trust goes a long way with me. The whole idea is to get every photo by the end of the second week. Theres no prize for getting in first, completing the task is prize enough for all that participate.

Good onya KerrA...keep an eye on the thread, mainly the first post, thats where the task will be set....finally. Obviuosly there needs to be a few get involved from both North and South. Will look at a start date down the track if the interest is there.

Hmm sound fun ......but in the south island it gets a bit tricky, assuming it is as you state, the 4 "corners" of the two islands, then only offroaders could finish these challenges , there are no public roads to at least two of these corners.
Keen to do it, but the rules need to be tightened up, maybe public roads only??
Or maybe state the 4 points to travel to??
Ps. This can't be a challenge between islands we have a much bigger island to cover (and nicer :bleh:)
And i thinking about taking an emu with me for extra points.

I will add 'Most Possible'....to the 4 corners...I probably didnt mean absolute.
Its possible to do in each Island, land mass aside, KBers live eveywhere, all it would take is a pm to someone closer to the task point and job done.

sorry i haven't read all the posts, but is this a situation of each individual as to get all the clues, or north island as a whole against south island... like could each person pick one and go get it (cause wouldn't that be done in a day). or is it more along the tag lines, that one person starts, next person has to get the same tag and go get a different one? Sorry if this is a noob question, but just trying to figure out how its gonna work, whether its a tag game or treasure hunt style.

I vote do it in July, when all the idiot uni students will be able to galavant around the country getting landmarks... but then again that may be a point against doing it in july! haha or else over summer... when weather is good for riding all day and night to get these tags!

but sounds like an awesome idea!

The rules are not the same as TAG.
Thats why I called tag with a twist.
Its about collecting all the photos in a set time (ie two weeks), and how many do it is up to each Island really.
I have not finished the list yet, I intend for it to be much larger than it is right now.
Getting in done in one day will not happen, nobody is that organised.
So its each Island as a whole. When it finally gets underway, anyone can nominate themselves to collect as many (or one only) photos as they want.
So its more along the lines of a treasure hunt if you like?
But, Location hunt….have you figured out yet the North Island riddle in post 1??
I will not give the locations to the Riddles away, so they might be a set back for some.
I may even add another Riddle for each Island.

If there ends up being around 50 photos/locations to visit (and not all are easy) then the two weeks will be needed. I for one can only manage weekends.
As for when? Well, don’t know about July, but when the weather is more settled then the flag will dropped and we’re off.

Keep checking Post 1 for any updates.

maybe do a poll Maha to see who is interested.....then you can use the poll results to get a list of peoples?Or all all polls anonymous?
edit...i see that polls can display who voted...so could be a relatively streamlined way to get a list of peoples...

Instead of a 'photo must contain the days date' you could also do it so that each photo must contain something random, to be announced at the last minute, like the photo at cape Reinga must contain a pumpkin in it!

Could even announce the destinations beforehand and the photo inclusions at the last minute :D
