Police are searching for motorcyclist who reached speeds of up to 180km/h in peak-hour traffic in Rotorua, according to the NZ Herald.
A police officer travelling on Fenton St noticed a motorbike travelling at high speed. The officer clocked its speed at 117km/h.
The rider then sped off pursued by the police officer who was forced to withdraw for safety reasons as the bike's speed increased.
180km/h in a built-up area? This guy needs a good kicking - this is giving the rest of us a bad name.
That said, if the officer clocked the bike at 117km/h, then where the "at speeds of up to 180km/h" bit comes from I just don't know. Sounds very much like a certain newspaper in the UK who routinely bring out their rant about "Motorcycles travelling at dangerous speeds of up to 120mph (no idea where they get that figure)", then on the same page will drool over a car that can do 180mph.
