There were a few out there at 1pm, but someone had a major bin around by Kaituna valley  didn't look good with the bike upside down suspended in a hedge and it looked pretty mangled on the trailer when I saw it on the return home  hope the rider got off lightly

 a total of 4 fuses used and expired kind sir!
Turned out to be a bad earth in my headlight giving me the greif :(
I missed a brilliant ride! The weather was glorious!
Where i was stranded, I managed to wave down a very kind biker who high tailed it back to Little River for me to buy me a fuse  he came back with 2 bless him. Then followed me back into Tai Tap to make sure I was ok. I wasnt waiting for long.
Hubby has had a fiddle round behind the headlight and taped up a bare wire and now seems to be back to normal again.
I have actually had a good run on the old girl of late. Spose i thought of that to soon huh  Murphy's Law and everything.

I only bought a bike yesterday down here but I did a bit of riding around today - quick run of Dyers pass then through the Lyttelton tunnel back to town this evening. I was quite suprised at just how much Grit is put down and how it is all just left to acumilate in the middle of the lane and doesn't seem to be swept before it is relaid. Not much fun to ride with, even when you are careful!

anyways, thanks to retro for the choice day for picking a ride, was a bit nippy on the way home.

It was the next valley over heading towards little river, roughly 12.30-45ish. Didn't stop as there were a heap of bikes parked up already (part of some group ride heading to Akers) and it was quite congested so there wasn't any need for any more rubber-neckers to be hanging around. The Little River fire brigade just took off to attend as we parked up at LR.

INTERESTING... cos I have heard of other complaints, the XJ passing a bike that was already passing a car, the GSXR cutting right hand corners more than 50% of the time (mate when landing a wheelie on the wrong side of the road dont continu for 500m's on that side move back to the left) BANDIT, going wide around lefties... learn to ride people.

at the keyboard at last after a fabulous day yesterday.
Group of about 11 of us left almost on time from the vets. First coffee was already under the belt as the wee cafe was open :Punk::Punk:
Checked the phone to find trumpie was round the corner with a dead bike and as you already know she rode but not quite as far as the rest of us.
Took the old tai tapu road and made our way out to Little river.
Not too much traffic on the road so we picked a reasonable time of the day. Everybody pulled up for coffee at Little river and nice chatty time and watched a decent amount of other riders on the road swing by......
6 of us headed over the hill and I have to say it was surprisingly good with a few patches of grit but certainly not what we had been expecting at all.
Txt from Dangerous to make sure we were all okay and I do hope the rider who did leave the road is recovering alright.
Lunch at bully hayes and then rolled on back......
Longwheely and I took the road over Gebbies pass.
Apparently he was asleep within an hour of arriving home....... His first ride out since moving to the land of the long white cloud 2 months ago.
It will take some time to get bike fit and used to our roads but I think he and his lady have a good summer to look forward to.
All in all a great ride and thanks to everyone who came along. So sorry for Trumpess as she and I were both looking forward to a good run. She made it to my place later in the day after sorting the bike.....
Hope you enjoyed your day as much as I did.......

it was an electric blue zx6r, 04-07 model, no beef with the rider, s/he knew something was up and rode with caution.

1st post or not i know the diff between a curry fart and hot air, and i look good in a Power Ranger outfit thanks for noticing, just to clear up the confustion that every one seems to be having.... landing a controlled wheely on the wrong side of a very long straight road with nothing in the distance for miles so as not to upset or spook the rider in front i think is fair, i could have overtaken the bike in front and passed on one wheel but i decided it was safer not to get to close and give him the room, and as far as cutting a right hand bend when you have good visabilty and the road is clear are you just gay or do you not know how to ride.......

Well I must know how to ride.. as I could take any corner you can and stay on the CORRECT side of the road... corner cutting is done by those that cant handle the corner, are going to fast, are lazy basrards or cant ride for shit.
what if a rider is passing you BANG what if you dont see the on comming bike/cage BANG, how may accos happen and the instigator always says I DIDNT SEE YOU

TBH, I cant be bothered with the crap if i do post about dubious riding (but I guess now i HAVE too  ) or even attempted to tell people I dont know, in person, that I thought they were kinda risky riders, they wouldn't listen to me cos I'm just a chick (and what would I know) so i wouldn't waste my breathe. The speeds we were going did NOT even remotely require cutting any corners, but one rider did it on most.
The posts above yours FL kinda prove the point.
Yep i did mention to D that there was 1 rider in the group I thought was a bit worrying... corner cutting and wheelies (yeah wheelies can be ok in the right conditions but not in amongst a group you dont know and not on a busy road like that particular one.) It may not have been busy at that particular moment but it can be and the cops patrol it a lot.
It was kinda obvious that they didn't know the road but did silly & potentially risky things anyway and that DID make me a little nervous so I was happy to stay back from them.
Having said that it wasn't quite worrying enough to say something to them, but maybe i should have... I dont know.
TWR is correct: if it was really stupid stuff I would have let them know, but it did make me uneasy.
...and the only bike I have ever wheelied is a bucket at the track, I wont ever do it on the Buell on the road, I'd happily admit I'm too much of a girl for that!
And after having had about 8 months off riding it was nice to have a easy blat to get the feeling back. I really enjoyed the cruise back by myself, I dont ride by myself enough these days. :Punk:

See this is what happens when your not there to see for your self, your now saying it`s not the wheely thats the problem it`s the over taking on bends which didn`t happen, just because i apexed a few bends using a racing line when it was safe to do so, you have blow it up to be something its not i`m not sorry for the way i rode because i was safe and had other road users in mind at all times, not that i need to justify my self to you.

I think D is very restrained in his group riding, sensible and setting a good example. Group rides are a lot of fun but inherently more dangerous than riding alone or with a few mates you are comfortable with, knowing their style etc. ALL the large group rides I have been on have had some absolute fuckwits that obviously think they are the best. I never have a problem with anyone wanting to go faster/slower than me, that's personal choice, but you should still ride with respect to others. The Akaroa road is a great piece of tar, but there are far too many accidents and the cops are starting to hammer it. Although cops say speed is the issue, I don't believe it is, and if we just showed a bit of respect for others in our riding then the Ackers road can continue to be motorcycle heaven for us all. Are you aware that the local Ackers cop is wanting to set up a 'meeting' with motorcyclists to discuss the way that some are using that road?? If we want the cops to treat us fairly then let's ride that way. ( a bit off topic sorry)

Kind of why I shy away from group rides. If it's not somebody wanting to prove something that I really couldn't give a shit about, it's someone else, dangerously inexperienced, driving two foot off my arse.
I prefer to think 'You lot go on ahead and I'll just see you there'.

just because i apexed a few bends using a racing line
UMMMM... then you should have been on the ripple strip then, OHHH hang on man, thats only on a race track, you were on the road which has a different set of rules and for a good reason.
Do you race? I do, well I try anyway and I can tell you this 'race lines' dont work on the road and visa versa... however the basics can be sheared, but kept legal
... corner cutting is done by those that cant handle the corner, are going to fast, are lazy bastards or cant ride for shit.
it`s the over taking on bends which didn`t happen, nothing reguarding that was aimed at you, in fact the closet comment to that would have been the XJ passing a bike while the bike was passing a cage?
I heard on a ride to akaroa you were wheelying passed cars and overtaking on corners, and this and that blah blah blah you know how it is.
yeah, I can be a right dumb arse too
Now remember I did not make any coments till a couple of others did, IIRC you were the 1st... I was not making any personal cracks at LW like he has done with me (name calling) but letting those reading know we dont ride like that here... if thats how people want to ride then there are other groups to ride with... one being the group that called the rescue choper out that very same day.
So, Im not above saying sorry if any post on my behalf ofended anyone

but...D...look man...you cant say that....you just cant say:
"rar rar rar doing dumb shit is stupid, 15 bajillion people die every day on the akaroa highway rar rar rar, cops get annoyed, people die, innocent people die......but its ok for me to do it"
I mean you're a grown man (mostly) you know what hypocrisy is.
lets say I was on that ride with you, and saw you over take a car on the back wheel.
we get to akaroa and I say "OI D YOU MAD FUCKER, YOU OVER TOOK ON THE BACK WHEEL IN A CORNER WITH YOUR COCK HANGING OUT, THAT'S NOT COOL DON'T EVER LET ME CATCH YOU DOING IT AGAIN OR YOU WONT RIDE WITH MY MOTORCYCLE CREW (who are the coolest and therefore you want to be seen riding with us) EVER AGAIN!!!"
and you're all like "oh...sorry dave, sorry man, look I got a bit carried away and it wont happen again, please forgive me"
and so I'm all like "that's ok D....now go get yourself an ice cream"
and then on the way home I over take a car on the back wheel.
how would that make you feel? you'd feel pretty annoyed that I'd just told you off for doing exactly that right? you'd think I was a jerk, risking my own life and the lives of others for the kicks.
and that's how we sometimes feel, because we have feelings too, deep emotional feelings.

( a bit off topic sorry) Good post- it deserves a thread of its own. I sold my road bike to go racing, partly because I realised I was pushing it a bit on the road. Eventually I'll get back out there I guess, but what will I be going back to? Sadly I think that those that ride without respect will continue to do so, because its all about them proving what an awesome riding god they are. The end result will be more accidents, and the police will be forced to crack down heavily on what is the only decent road close to Christchurch.
On the 'riding god' thing, those with long memories will remember when two of the fastest KB road riders at the time went head to head at Ruapuna. From memory the times managed times on their late model 1000's were just slightly faster than what teenage Streetstock riders are doing on bog standard RG150's, and well under the top times for F3 bikes with less than half the power. Which goes to prove that if you really want to see how good you are, you need to do it on the track under controlled conditions and against equivalent machinery. 'Giving someone the learn' on the road is really all about who is prepared to take the most risk. Risk to their licence, to themselves, to their wallet, and to other road users.
EDIT: oops. So much for my memory! Kickaha has pointed out that they were both a fair bit quicker than an RG150 racer, and did reasonable F3 times

As a road captian D considers everyone involved in the ride, and because of this usually get the job due to the respect others have for his ability as such

Inherant problem with the Akers ride, even before it was tar-sealed it has always been the local ride that people believe they have to prove themselves against others on, it's just the nature of the road and the locals who ride it, there wouldn't be one motorcyclist in the region that hasn't ridden it or knows the reputation the road holds; every region in NZ has one piece of road that fits the dynamics of this road and no matter how policed it is or the such like it'll always be what it is  (Its been heavily policed in the past and will be in the future, but it wont change what it is).
Unfortunately there'll always be that small percentage of motorcyclists who step beyond a reasonable approach to what the road has to offer and draw an element of distain towards the whole population of bikers that use it. There'll always be accidents through there, whether it be by unintentional means or just sheer stupidity but that's where the biggest problem lies because the acts of stupidity are the ones that draw the most attention bring the most ridicule

Its a mint bit of road, and yeah it certainly encourages you to ride quickly. The key is to do it safely, and with consideration for the safety of other road users. If people don't learn to do that, one day it could end up with a 60k speed limit

I stuck at the back with Tim and Guzza (until he left us to steal the tag) and Tom till Littler river. Each to there own. If you dont like group riding then dont, simple as that.

Dave me oll fruit... in correct responce to your story post as you still may not have worked it out, read below.
I'll correct response to this now.
I'm not convinced that riding with people you know justifies risky riding, and therefore it does not give you the right to tell others it's dangerous, even if it isn't, and especially if you weren't there.
the ones who've informed me of Ds antics are riders he doesn't know, or ride often with, which just goes to prove the point that he's a hypocrite.
a vehicle coming in the opposite direction is deadly regardless of whether you're riding with a group of people you know or not, having a head on collision with a truck at 100kph is just as deadly whether you're riding with people you know, people you don't know or solo, no matter how you look at it you're going to die.
However if I were to actually accept these accusations of wheelies and dodgy overtakes as truth then scorn him for it then I'd be no batter than the man himself, so I accept MVnuts word that Ds riding is probably safe, as stated my informants aren't people he rides with so they don't get a good idea of what he's really like, and then you get the classic motorcyclist exaggeration of facts (fishing stories eh D? IT WAS THIS BIG!) and as such I'd expect the same respect when I say that LWs long wheelie wasn't that long, nor was it that dangerous, and he's actually a pretty good dude and you guys have clearly got him on the defence so knock it off.
oh and I don't ride with D either, not a personal choice, I just like to ride faster than 90kph :P :jerry:

PLUS ONE!! [Not that I can wheelie to save myself!!] As far as group rides are concerned-Dangerous is the man as leader. He is no angel, but that keeps things fun, and if he has a comment re my riding, I take him seriously, based on his experience. I would rather try and learn than crash.

that's my point!
D, in my post I say 3 things,
1 regardless of who you ride with you can still die. - you cannot argue with that.
2 you're a hypocrite - as proven.
3 I'm not a hypocrite because I don't go around lecturing other riders on the forums about their riding (this is ny first time, I think I'm doing quite well really, and it's to a make a point) I don't believe the hearsay I've heard about your riding D, and so I go on to say that several well respected riders who've ridden with you (much more than my informants) have said you're a safe rider, so chances are you're a safe rider, so maybe you're not as much of a hypocrite....but you are still a wee bit.

YES, now LW not knowing me jumped to the conclusion that I was dealing him a pile a shit, but alas I was humouring him, it takes one to know one however I do not believe in corner cutting, any rider worth their salt can corner at a controllable speed and stay on the correct side of the road.
The crowd shouting anecdote.
Lost what battle ? It`s not over untill the fat lady sings (private joke lol )
Anyway i thought you rode a bike not a horse, mind you don`t fall your very high up their.. HUH... oh BTW its a tractor
If you get any closer to D`s arse your head will disappear for good..You do have this thing for the male anatomy now dont you (dicks, arse's etc) whats that about? something you wana tell us?
and dont worry TWR and my self aint the best of mates, he is however a good judge of persona.

Hi fireliv. I have posted a thread for a ride Sunday. It's under meeting and events forum. At the moment there seem to be a few Harleys coming but it is definitely not restricted to them. All welcome.
But as the saying gos - No Attitudes LOL.
